FT: Faria, Stidham, R. Vanderweerd
Heat 1: Smith, Faria, Knopf
Heat 2: Stidham, Carlile, Kirkbride
Heat 3: Pombo, Murphy, Mack
Main: Smith, Faria, Stidham, Pombo, R. Vanderweerd
21 cars, all of which started the main, including Hamblin who flipped during hot laps but repaired. Stands about 2/3s-3/4s full. Yellows at 1, 6 and 11, with T. J. leading all the way. Faria was on two and three wheels much of the way, coming to 2nd from 8th.
Overheard four different conversations about a 360 sprint week. How many cars in Ventura and Victorville tonight?

Forgot to mention... that was one very "moist" racetrack this evening. A "grease pit," ya might say. It must be tough to prep SMS lately. The weather here has been about like 'Frisco day in and day out for weeks. Justyne basically just slid and slid and slid during the hot laps until there was no more room. The track never really dried out and was a series of parallel trenches for the poor dwarf cars. But, man, did the 360s hook up coming out of two and four in the main. Faria and Carlile were almost "leaping."

Ten cars at V-ville. Cardey broke a motor while chasing Austin Williams for the lead with about 3 laps to go. Williams led green to checkers.

To let everyone no on Justyne's car the drive on the back side of the cam that runs the power steering and fuel pump striped out and she lost steering going into turn 1 , nothing to do with the way the track was preped or the right front wheel locking up . 20 dollar item ended up costing alot more . Also I would like to thank everyone who helped getting the car put back together , once again THANKS...

Grease pit? I took the night off and watched the races from the Grandstands. Im not sure how the racing gets much better than that. Sprint Main was very exciting. They were running anywhere in the track they wanted. Winner of Dwarf car main won from 22nd! Every Dwarf car driver I saw after the races said they loved it, so Im not sure where "Poor Dwarf Cars" comes from. Sorry if you prefer it dry, but if the Sprints can go that fast and dice it up that much, I will take that track every week. (except turn 1 started to get rough. First part of track to see shade every day)

Congrats to Chris and crew at Santa Maria on the track prep. It was a very racey track the entire night. Too bad we don't still have the transponders as I believe the leaders were turning some pretty quick times even late into the feature. TJ could and did run low and high.
No dust. Fast times and great racing. I do not understand the complaint.

One of the things I've noticed again and again for almost the entire existence of this and other Internet forums is a tendency to attribute some sort of evil to the intentions of other posters.
If I thought the track was "crappy" or "badly prepared," I'd have said "crappy" or "badly prepared." It was anything but =either=. But it was evident to anyone with eyeballs how much the dwarfs were being tossed right and left by track conditions no one could have done anything much about. SMS is just about always as well-prepared as humans can possibly make it, but weather is weather is weather.

Sorry I took offence to you calling the track "a grease pit" and saying that "it must be hard to prep SMS lately". It was far from a grease pit. I know, because we have had some grease pit tracks earlier this year. It is Not tough to prep SMS lately. We have it much easier than the tracks in the valley that have to contend with 105 degree weather. I also disagree that Dwarfs were being "tossed by track conditions"
Here is a conversation with a Dwarf driver on Facebook.
Chris, Thanks for your help and generosity. You show an enthusiasm for racing and racers that makes it easy to make that 7 hour haul from San Diego. You're doing a great job with that track and I'm very impressed. Tim and Tom do an awesome job prepping that track. I just wish I would have read it a little better. . I'm sure the success is gonna show.
Marshall Thank you Razz. Was the track rough? The track had a couple of ruts in turn 1, but nothing outrageous. All in all, I'd give it a solid 9 on track condition. I'm looking forward to coming back. Marshall
