The condition related to the Monday after Knoxville Nationals is commonly referred to as "PKD." Post Knoxville Depression. This is a severe depression suffered by at least 25,000 people in multiple countries during mid August. Symptoms include, but are not limited to: sweating, a blank expression on the face, speech limited to gutteral sounds. and references to wings, nerf bars, four abreast, Dingus, etc... Severe symptoms last approximately 3 months, at which time they become less devastating. However, symptoms manifesting themselves in a lesser degree are everpresent in the individual. It has been noted that the only cure for this form of depression is a stay in the town of Knoxville, Iowa, during which the individual attends ten nights of incredible racing, and days filled with numerous diversions such as drinking, cook-outs, drinking, visitation with friends from distant states/countries, drinking, dances, contests, drinking, etc... The most frustrating aspect of this depression is that the cure only lasts for those 10 days after which the depression returns in full blown fashion. Ask any of the approximate 25,000 people afflicted with this depression yearly, and they will tell you that 11 months 2 weeks of suffering is a small price to pay for the short lived cure. In other words, THERE IS NO EVENT ON EARTH LIKE THE KNOXVILLE NATIONALS!!!!!!!!!! 360 NATIONALS & 410 NATIONALS! SEE YA THERE

When you hear the song "Happy Trails to you" Saturday night you will know your in for an incurable case of PKD. Try not to think about it, it doesn't set in till Sunday morning. It feels like Christmas being over and having to wait till next year.

Thanks hoosiergal. Believe me, it came from the heart, and years of experience. We would come from Florida every year, and the day we left to go home again I would cry all the way up Highway 14, and for about an hour on I-80. My only reprieve was in February we would go to Volusia County for the sprint shows there. That got me through 'til August when we headed west again to our version of heaven. We loved it here in Iowa so much we retired early and moved to a town 30 miles from Knoxville. We have a permanent campsite at the North Campground and you can guess where we are every weekend all season. Missed the races due circumstances beyond our control, but that happens rarely. How to describe Knoxville, Iowa, "With all these wings, this must be heaven!"

A somewhat lesser strain of PKD happens in January of each year = PCBD .... it's contracted on the Sunday after the Chili Bowl. Fortunately I get symptoms of both each year .....
