I will be making my first trip ever to Eldora this year for the Royal. Did I "miss out" on Eldora's "glory days" since they changed the track?

Don't let the naysayers chase you away. You'll enjoy yourself. I'm not sure about the "glory days" but any true sprint car fan such as yourself needs to hit Eldora a time or two. The Kings Royal crowds are the biggest the track gets (for a sprint car race anyway).

I'm sure things will be better by then Pat. This will be the 1st time in about 10 yr's that we won't be camping down there & missing the friday show. More than likely will be there Saturday setting down by the Dingus bunch. @ least I hope. I was told yesterday @ work that I might be getting a dedicated run & that consits of 3 12 hr days 1 wk & 4 12 hr days the next & I don't know which weekend I'll be off @ this point. Even if I don't get to see you I'm sure that you will enjoy the experience.

Hey Hawker

I was a virgin also until "The Million". When you first see the joint you will not be sorry you came. I have went back every year since but always for the "Kings Royal". Crazy fast!! Let's just hope Tony holds true to his words and gets it back in true Eldora fashion.

Tip: "Hawker" I assume you are Iowegian - so if travelling thru the land of Lincoln "Road construction capitol of the world":Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones starting in July. Second offense tickets are $1,000 with license suspension. Beginning in July the State of Illinois will use speed cameras in areas designated as "Work Zones" on major freeways. Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense, but the SECOND offense will cost $1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension!. Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allows insurance companies to raise their rates. This represents the harshest penalty structure yet for a city or state usingPHOTO enforcements. The State will begin with TWO camera vans issuing tickets in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photographs of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken.

Hawker - please look us up when you come to the Royal. You will not be disappointed. I just saw some pictures of the Eldora crew adding more clay to the high side of the track. Can't wait for the first All Star show there on May 5th!!! We'll give 'er another test run!!

RebelBubba and I will be camping next to the Posse bunch in Section A1 Space 10. I hear it is in close proximity to the Dingus crew.

Well, Chicago is one big construction zone anyway, so you either drive 20 through the congestion, or drive 80 to keep up with traffic when you clear the work areas. Hard to believe they can police some of those areas.

If you had to take off work and drive 300 miles one-way (gas was $2.80 a gallon, probably is higher now in the God-forsaken state) to appear in court just so they could make you pay $505 for speeding in a "construction zone" you wouldn't like the state much either.

Just like DUI, I have no problem with big fines for construction zones. There is no reason for it and it IS dangerous. There were over 20 MODOT workers hit and killed in construction zones here in Missouri last year.

There's only 2 seasons in Chicago, Winter and Construction!

If traveling east or west on I-80, about the only good time to pass through the Chitown area is very late at night or the wee hours of the morning. During the day don't even worry about the photo radar cuz you won't be moving fast enough. A road worker was killed by a hit and run driver earlier this year so I can't blame the state for being such a hard ass.

Kings Royal falls on the first Saturday of Indiana Sprint Week. You could attend the race at North Vernon on Wednesday and Lawrenceburg on Thursday before going to Eldora.. You will see better racing those two days than the two days at Eldora. On the Sunday after Kings Royal you could go to Kokomo. Five races in five days ain't too bad.

I would LOVE to do that, but I am lucky enough just to go to the Royal and the "night before"....... I did get to go to the opening night of Sprintweek several years ago at North Vernon and it was awesome.
