OCRS RETURNS TO WEST SILOAM SATURDAY NIGHT!
by John Lemon
Tulsa, Oklahoma (July 20, 2010) – The Oil Capital Racing Series sprint cars make their return to West Siloam Speedway this Saturday night in what will be an action packed night of high speed, high stakes, racing action. Now under the direction of Joey and Johni Vaughn, West Siloam Speedway last hosted an OCRS sprint car event on August 29, 2009. Broken Arrow's Jonathan Beason stood atop the podium at the conclusion of the A Feature. That race along with another victory and multiple productive finishes propelled Beason to being named the 2009 OCRS rookie of the year.
Going into this Saturday's event, two-time defending OCRS sprint car champion, Jamie Passmore, of nearby Rose, leads the OCRS warriors in the chase for a possible three peat in OCRS titles. Looking to break Passmore's string is another nearby favorite, Rafe Essary of Stillwell. Essary sits in the runner-up position and is looking to earn that first OCRS championship title. Tulsa's Mike Goodman (a former OCRS champion), Owasso's Matt Sherrell, Danny Smith of Sand Springs, Broken Arrow's Travis "Hollywood" Jenkins, Tim Kent of Bristow and Drumwright's Fred Mattox are all formidable foes that could walk away with the winners hardware as well.
Records are always made to be broken and this Saturday night, there are two strong female drivers that would like nothing more than to become the first of their gender to knock off the men. Tulsa's, Kacee Frazier won her first main event in her brief career by taking the A Feature at Creek County Speedway in Kellyville last Saturday (an non OCRS sanctioned race). Then there is Shayla Waddell of Oklahoma City who is a two time A feature winner at the former State Fair Speedway in OKC (each was also a non sanctioned OCRS event). Should either racer take their first OCRS triumph, it would set a record for OCRS competition by having a female stand tall amongst the men.
The Vaughn's have added several truck loads of new clay to the racing surface since their takeover and this will be the first time that the OCRS sprinters will have graced the "new" surface. As with most tracks that change their playground, the entire field will have to learn to adapt quickly to produce the optimum result possible for their nights efforts. Bring your friends out for a night of great racing action and let the OCRS warriors put on a great show for you!
