Cody Morris, OKLAHOMA CITY,OK (July 17 2010) - A trio of familiar faces rode the lightning bolts of I-44 Speedway's high banks to victory lane in the 1st of a 2 night Lucas Oil ASCS2 double at the high banked, 1/6th mile red clay oval. A field of 55 Lucas Oil ASCS2 speed plants greeted Oklahoma City area race fans to assault an extremely tacky racing surface still heavily saturated from recent flooding near the intersection of Interstate 44 and the South Canadian River.

At the end of a blinding night of Lucas Oil ASCS2 action the sweet smell of victory, as well as high volumes of mosquito repellant (that seemed to never work) greeted regional aces Frank Flud, Christopher Bell, and Chance Morton.

In Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw action, Travis Harris would lead the field to the green flag. But it would be Pryor, Oklahoma pilot Frank Flud gunning into the early lead. The wily "Legendary Blue Wazoo" would maintain that advantage throughout the 25 lap affair with little challenge en route to his 3rd Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw victory of the season aboard the familiar MobilVac, Heritage Flooring, Metric Cycles, Factor One Racing, Fenton Graphics, Jennings Powdercoating, and Airflow Racing Products sponsored no. 81 entry.

Frank was all smiles once pitside, noticing the irony that if a facility is about to be or recently has been flooded, his chances of winning seem to balloon, although he does regret the rapid mosquito spawning that tends to accompany such events.

On the other hand, luck was not on the side of current Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw point leader Blake Hahn. Sapulpa, Oklahoma's pilot of the Pepsi Challenger no. 52 machine would start the race 3rd, only to have right front bearing lock up and eventually sever the right front tire from the car halfway through the event, relegating Blake to a 12th place finish.

Pole sitter Travis Harris would maintain the runner up position for the duration of the 25 lapper, with 8th starter and reigning I-30 Speedway 600 Nationals champ Jason Lair settling for the show position. Scott Sawyer and Christopher Bell completed the top 5 running order. Flud and Dalton Terrell took heat race honors over a 16 car field that was relegated to 15 cars prior to the Outlaw main event, as Brandon Hahn would be disqualified for his 2nd consecutive Lucas Oil ASCS2 event, both times involving incidents with Cameron Hagin.

In Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing action, Christopher Bell would maintain his Non Wing dominance with a lap 5 pass of pole sitter Shelby Byrd, braving 5 race stoppages, including an opening lap scramble involving 7 competitors. Bell looked to go unchallenged, but as the laps wound down, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma's Trey Marcham would begin to apply pressure over the final 5 circuits, but Bell would hold on for win aboard the KMK Enterprises, Ruston Racing and Development, Millenium Roofing, Metric Cycles, Sleeper Graphics, and Home Creations sponsored no. 21 bullet. The win would mark Bell's 5th of the 2010 Lucas Oil Non Wing campaign. Bell has 4 wins and a runner up finish to his credit in the last 5 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing events.

Trey Marcham would mount a late race challenge, but ultimately settle for runner up honors, while Steven Shebester would steal the show position with a last lap, turn 4 pass of Shelby Byrd, a very crucial pass as Shebester tries to stay within distance of the red-hot Bell in the 2010 Lucas Oil Non Wing Championship hunt. Matt Ward would fend off late race challenges from Tyler Thomas to complete the top 5 running order of the 25 lap Non Wing main event. Bell, Marcham, and Alex Sewell topped heat race action over the 20 car Non Wing field.

In Lucas Oil ASCS2 Restricted action, Coweta, Oklahoma shoe Chance Morton fought his way through the 20 lap battle royale that saw 19 cars start the event, but only 7 finish. Grady Chandler would take the early lead in the event, with Morton and current Lucas Oil 2010 Restricted point leader Logan Martin dueling for 2nd. Morton would not only take the runner up spot, but inherit the lead after race long leader Chandler spun to a stop exiting turn 2.

After a Cody Jarvis spin brought out a caution with 5 laps remaining, the ensuing restart would play absolute carnage to the remaining field, eliminating several drivers from the event including point leader Martin who was in 2nd at the time. The final 5 laps would tick away without stoppage, and 12 year old Chance Morton would take his 3rd victory of the 2010 Lucas Oil Restricted campaign aboard the Morton Excavating, Napa Auto Parts, Intruder Chassis, Momo’s Racing Engines, and JPM sponsored no. 7m machine.

Hulbert, Oklahoma’s Karley Kay Dobson would finish in the runner up spot while also earning hard charger honors after starting 15th. Dobson’s runner up finish would mark her 8th consecutive top 5 finish and 5th consecutive podium finish. Seth Brown, Dylan Wickham, and Cody Jarvis would complete the top 5 running order of the 20 lap affair. Morton, Dalton Wisely, and Skylar Hale took heat race honors over the 19 car Restricted field.

The top 4 finishers from each of the three Lucas Oil ASCS2 A features will be locked into Saturday’s feature redraw.

Lucas Oil ASCS2 action resumes tomorrow night, Saturday, July 17th for the I-44 weekend finale. Gates open at 5pm with racing action beginning at 730pm.
