Temperature over 100 degrees into the early evening and a steady breeze most of the night made for a dusty, slick track at main event time. Bobby Graham looked headed to his first ever SCRA main event victory when he lost his power steering. Tony Jones was running in the top five when he got upside down in turn two. Jones never went back to the pits and restarted at the back. He worked his way back up to tenth before dropping out on a late race red flag. John Scott was battling with the top five - which was a great, fierce battle throughout the race -when he had to change a left rear tire on a red. He restarted at the back and got up to 13th. Mike Kirby had a great early race battle for fourth with Mike English, but once he took that spot, he passed Griffin for second and eventually Graham for the win. Rip Williams started 20th and finished third (was momentarily in second and almost took the lead).

Defending SCRA champion and fast qualifier on the night Cory Kruseman felt a vibration while in a transfer spot in his heat race. He pulled out of the heat and eventually out for the night.

Vista Paint will next present the NAPA Auto Parts/Auto Trader Magazines SCRA Sprint Cars and the Southern California Ford Dealers USAC Ford Focus Midgets at Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday July 27th.

Dwight Cheney's car. Same car J.J. Yeley won the 2002 season opener in.
