DAVID CARDEY WINS FOURTH IN A ROW - GOES FOR NUMBER FIVE THIS SATURDAY AT VICTORVILLE AUTO RACEWAY!
(JULY 8, 2010, RIVERSIDE, CA) Last Saturday night, before one of the largest crowds in the history of Perris Auto Speedway, Riverside, California's David Cardey thrilled the huge gathering by winning his fourth main event in a row in the 30-lap USAC/CRA Sprint Car main event. Cardey will shoot for his fifth main win in as many starts this Saturday night, July 17th, on the Southern California High Desert at Victorville Auto Raceway.
The 34-year old Riverside, California resident qualified 8th in the 26 car field. That placed him inside the third row in his 10-lap heat race. Cardey played well to the festive holiday weekend crowd in the heat and put it on its feet with a thrilling last lap pass for the victory. It was his third USAC/CRA heat race win of the year.
Cardey's transfer out of his heat race boded well as it placed on the inside of the front row for the Firecracker 30 main event. He was second on the start of the race and stayed there until he took the lead on lap 14. Swapping the lead back and fourth, he led laps 14 and 15 before relinquishing the top spot on the sixteenth go round.
Cardey regained the lead on the 21st lap and led the final 10 circuits for his third USAC/CRA main event victory in a row at The PAS. By winning from the pole (something that has seldom been accomplished at The PAS) Cardey picked up the Larry Jolly Award and the $100.00 bonus that goes along with it.
The last time another driver besides "Dynamite" David Cardey won a USAC/CRA main event at the famous Riverside County clay oval was April 10th!
Racing was not the only business on Cardey's ledger on Saturday. Before the races, he and his car, along with all of the other USAC/CRA drivers and their cars, were parked on the front straightaway to pose for photos and sign autographs for the crowd. Cardey and the other drivers also participated with children from the stands in a series of games and contests. Needless to say, the happy winner was swamped with hundreds of fans who came to his pit to wish congratulations, get autographs and pose for photos after the race.
This Saturday, Cardey will be behind wheel of longtime Southern California speed icon Don Blair's #12 at the Victorville Auto Raceway. In his only appearance in the car and at Victorville this season, Cardey won the main event on June 12th. Racing will begin at 6:00 PM. For more information call: (760) 403-4144.
