I thought I heard Wayne say at Knoxville Sat. night that he paid $12,000 for his motor. If this is correct it's got to be the best buy in racing today as he's run second three weeks in a row at Knoxville and fifth with the Outlaws against motors costing 3 to 4 times more.

Yeah thats what he told me too.. Makes you wonder why the 360 guys bother buying the top line motors that cost just as much, and race for the half the money!!!

Wayne also stated that the guy origionally wanted $20,000 for the motor but sold it to him for $12,000 to help him out.

True story, 12k for the motor. It is a mopar that was originally built by Kistler and had been sitting around for over a year.
The tires and wings have made a huge difference with the cars not being as locked down as in the past thus making the horsepower less important.
Car is rolling nice and Wayne is one of the best racers in the country.

The 360 motors are about 5-$7,000 cheaper to buy new, they last twice as long(sometimes a whole year) and are 3-$4,000 cheaper to rebuild. Also with the ASCS head rule you can have an "outdated" motor and still be competitive.
Yeah the motor cost Wayne $12,000, but cost whoever bought it new 35-$42,000, and when freshened should still be as good as it was new. I doubt all the guys that run K'ville weekly have all brand new up to date motors, but it does prove you don't have to have to best stuff to be competitive. All you need is a good setup and driver, which Wayne is and he pretty damn good at Knoxville too.
The older I get, the faster I used to be.

Didn't the #56 of Heskin finish 5th with a 360 in the 410 class a few weeks ago?

Good question as to Heskin. Not sure about that. Good to see Wayne Johnson back in good form I don't care about all the questions dirtdevil raised....it's good to see him racing at Knoxville again.

It's also refreshing to see some racing and racers being discussed on here again in a civil and positive manner. I was beginning to wonder what direction this forum was headed there for a day or two.

I remember Jeff Swindell saying that he and his car owner had spent $7500 for the 360 they were using late last year. That was the night of those twin 25 lap features at The Ditch in Nov. (when Sammy and Stenhouse got into it). Jeff ran good that night and the week before that at the STN's.

Hope he can keep it rolling into August. I'm smelling a Top - 10 at Nats.

Wayne is proving he is a heckuva racer. Goes to show you that a good driver can still carry a mediocre car and motor.

There's lots of good ones that cut their teeth at Fairgrounds Speedway in Okla City.
Wayne was one of 10 different drivers i can think of that ran on Friday nights there in the 90's-00's that have had national exposure .
The track is already missed very much & if you want to see it before she's gone, you better hurry, sounds like.

With 1 exception Wayne Johnson has won in EVERY sprint car he has raced. Knoxville or anywhere. He has that ability to get the most out of a car and usually "the most" is winning. He doesn't have the horses to win the Nationals, but it would not surprise me at all to see him lock that 77X in the A-Main for Saturday night.
