LINCOLN SPEEDWAY START TIMES MOVED TO 7:30 PM Jul 5, 2010, 11:44 Dry conditions prompt moving 7 PM start times to 7:30 for remainder of season ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 7/5/2010 - Due to increasingly dry racing conditions, Lincoln Speedway promoters Don and Bob Leiby and Alan Kreitzer, have decided to move all scheduled 7 PM start times through the September 25th Kenny Weld Memorial to 7:30 PM. That will also move gate opening times from 5 PM to 5:30 PM. Next Saturday night, July 10th, at 7:30 PM, it will be KIDS NIGHT at Lincoln Speedway with special give-aways for children in attendance. The three-division show will feature the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 Sprints, the Keizer Aluminum Wheels 358 Sprints, and Thundercars. Gates will open at 5:30 PM.

Wish some other track would do this...including one in western OH in 2 weeks. 6:30 is WAY to early to start racing in July!!!

Lincoln used to always start @ 7:30. They moved it up to 7 last year because they were getting over so late. Glad to see they moved it back.

My local track (Santa Maria Speedway) just did the same thing a week ago. Fans and racers were starting to voice their displeasure with the dry race tracks as well as too early of a start time (5pm qualifying and 6pm racing) so the promoter listened and moved it all back an hour. This past weekend saw a return of a good racing surface.

My local track moved UP the start time from 7:30 to 6:30 on Saturday nights to allow for the addition of a 5th class of cars. Eagle Raceway had a beautiful race track Saturday night with a low and high groove with a lot of passing. I think it is more of an issue if the water truck will start or not.

With temps forecasted to be in the high 90's and even low 100's in the PA area all week and the lack of soaking rain the last 2-3 weeks that half hour later starting time will do nothing for the track conditions.

The less they race in the sun, the better off they are. No racing should take place til Sundown!

The last three weeks Knoxville were like this:

week 1 dust in hot laps rubber down at the start of the main oh ya we had 6inches of RAIN the two days before the race.

week 2 good race track all night minimal if any rain

week 3 HEAVY race track it didn't widen at all till part way through the 410A no rain

my point is weather affects a race track to a point but not as much as one might think

interesting topic alott of things need to be considered with track prep depending on car count how many classes have time trials etc.. i personally don't think one hour in the evening would make that much of a difference if no cars have been on the track on the promotors side i can see setting back start times on fridays giving familys time to eat cash checks etc. and the extra hour could make a big difference in car counts rainouts work schedules etc ..........

IBRACN, I couldn't have said it any better myself. I just recently moved to Redwood Falls, MN and they race on Sunday nights starting at 5:30 with 7 classes of cars including 360 sprints and 2 classes of modifieds. Sure the track gets dry but 2 five minute breaks during the heats to dump some water on the track and another 5-10 minute soaking before the features and I have yet to see a one grove rubber down track. In fact, I have seen more last lap passes and close finishes the past 4-5 weeks than I have seen in the past 4-5 years!! It's not all on start time. You also have to fire up the water truck every now and then :-)
