Enough is enough I am so sick of hearing about the way tracks are treating people, If you wish to race and your desire is to come play with us, then come on out and play.

Just a thought.....

Maybe if the tracks started treating people better the people would come out to play. HMMM?

The "if you don't like it don't race here" mentality is why there is no more racing in Enid.

your exactly correct!!!

Hopefully everyone will support the speedway when it reopens and see if Mr. Beckley runs it differently. Im guessing you wont hear the words"if you dont like it then race somewhere else"...

reminder its jmo but i think racers have become spoiled and would rather gripe about track conditions and this and that than just strapping in and racing a racecar i have been racing for ten years been around it all my life i dont remember my dad or my uncle griping and complaining they just adapted to the race track now we dont do that we wait for the track people to cater i like it different all the time it shows who cant drive a car not just on one kind of track ut all

I will say that Saturday night I left a race track happier than I have been in a while and the funny thing is that I didn't even see any races Saturday night!

I paid my $12 and went and sat in the grandstands at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee and watched them try very hard to get the track to come around. It was obvious that it was a lost cause so they announced that they would make the show up next week, and you would get in free. Well, I had driven 4 hours from home for this race and can not go back this Saturday so I stuck around to see if they would consider giving me my money back, completely expecting them to tell me that it was just tough luck that I could not return and I would lose that $12, if that would have happened I would not have been surprised in the least, it has happened many times before so that is what I was expecting. What actually happened shocked and impressed me so much that I have planned at least 3 more trips to Muskogee. The man who I understood to be the head duck at the track personally came to the ticket booth and handed every person their $ back himself.

I was not the only person who was impressed by this, so the moral of the story is that treating people the right way still gets you far even today. I will do everything in my power to support those good people at Thunderbird and I hope that you all will do the same if you are able.

So, if you are sick of the way a track is treating you, give these guys a chance. I left a race track Saturday night having sat on hard concrete for 2 hours watching cars try to pack a sloppy track and ended up not seeing any racing at all and I still left more satisfied and happy than I have been in a long time, that in my opinion is impressive!

This is a slippery slope that racing as to deal with. On one side the promotor has a bussinnes to run, he has to make some type of money to keep the gates open. However, if he does not keep the drivers and fans happy then he will not have a bussines to run anymore. The promotor that understands this two sides is the promotor that will stay in the racing game for a very long time.

Good point Erich but... Times have changed so much everybody wants an edge promoters and drivers/car owners alike. Racing damn sure is not what it used to be,I am not talking about types of cars I am talking about attitudes on both sides. Drivers/car owners; some think it is all about them or they will cry and bitch if they don't have an edge. Promoters; hell most of them don't even tell you thanks for even showing up it only takes 2 seconds to show appreciation, some are to busy counting their money and others are trying to talk to you like a step child.

Now days it is all about ME and the hell with the other guys which has taken the fun out of even going to a track as a fan. I know the cost of racing has gone thru the roof but so has opening the gates at any racing facility. So I agree with uncle a shut the hell up with the crying and go race or sell out and take your attitude some where else.

I agree with your post Randy. However you have seen as well as I those promotors that will fall to the every whim of a driver or a class. When this happens then both the track and fans suffer.

Yep and too many promoters listen to crazy off the wall stuff that a hand full of people can up with. Then it usually bites them in the butt... Or try to make 5 drivers/owners Happy but piss off 15 in the process. Thats why unc and me have always said common rules stops allot of bitching. The bitching will never stop it just won't be as bad IMO... If you come out with a set of rules at the first of the season stick by them all season and don't change nothing just to satisfy a certain few.

I don't know who is in charge of Thunderbird completly but if it is Stanley Slater, He has always been a stand up guy and he is a man of his word. He is old school and knows how things should be done after all he has took many checkers in the #19 over the years past. That is good to hear SprintCarFanRob, at least some promoters still care about the fans and competitors. As soon as I can get a night off we will make the trip to Muskogee and see the Slater's put on a good show. Who knows I just might just clean my old set of flags and bring them with me lol j/k...

sounds like muskogee has gotten it figured out and I applaud them for that... I will now make a trip there myself because I wanna support the promoters who take care of the fans.

I have always stated that if all the tracks in oklahoma would come into consensus on a set rules for each class it would only improve the racing at all venues. Plus the possibilities of good shows for each track would be great. There is a week of oklahoma modified racing coming up(6 straight nites of racing) and its not even being put on by an oklahoma company. Oklahoma tracks needs thier own series like the (M.A.P.S) Mid America Promoter Series from years ago.

rhilbers - I believe the mans name was Dennis that handed me my money but I believe that his last name was Slater, at least that was the name I heard them say a few times when we were waiting to see if we would get our money back. I honestly don't remember ever being treated that way at a race track. I really hope people will continue to support those folks. You can really see that they are working extremely hard to get that place on its feet and if drivers and fans will support them it could be a great thing for the racing family in OK.

I started this thread to bring awareness to all Racers and Promoters. Oklahoma needs a consistant set of rules across the State to revive racing. Since the closing of Fairgrounds Speedway we have all lost our way. The only thing for all involved to do is comply with a common Rule Book. If all Promoters would set aside their mentality of "If you want to run here these is my rules".

A common Rule Book in all classes can only enhance dirt track racing across the board and bring back the quality of racing we all know in our great State.

Local promoters should work close with sanctioning bodies as well.

Uncle a, you help me get all promoters together and find there way to Holleys bbq one Saturday during the off season for a Oklahoma promoters conference then maybe we can get something going. I mentioend this on the Enid Street Stock Nationals thread.

OKC no longer dictates what is going to be run and the rules, what I mean is that drivers aren't running fairgournds speedway only rules cause there are none. The OKC/OCRS champ sprints need to be on the same page, the tracks running NCRA or USMTS type rules need to be on the same page, the sport mods (IMCA and NCRA southern mods) need to be the norm instead of this 360 or e mod stuff and a common set of factory/street stock rules.

Promoters need to get off this "I want guys running my tracks and no other tracks that is why the rues are the way they are" and work together cause in the end it would benefit everybody. Tracks, promoters, drivers and fans.

I am big time NCRA modifieds but I think that IMCA type modifieds are the way to go myself. IMCA type street stock rules as well. Something needs to be done and somebody needs to get ALL promoters together and those that don't want to then it will be known that they dont want to work with anybody.

Just some random thoughts with me having to be up here at 3 AM - - SEE YA!!
