No doubt about it, under Brill management that place has done a 180. Track surface has improved, facility finally has some curb appeal, and you don't have to wait until it gets dark to take a leak.(severe hornet allergies, never could go in the old pit outhouse)

I'll answer the question the JD posed, Outlaw does a damn fine job to cater to fans and racers. It's a bit of a drive, but has always been worth the trip. (did get covered in dust for the USMTS guys...ewwww dirt..lol)

It's called the feature or main event for a reason. Who wouldn't want to see 8 in the heats, 10 in a "B", and 24 car mains? Fact is that those days are few and far between. If 4 car heats gives a better shot of all 12-17 cars in a class to start the feature, then I can accept it. To rag the promoter is plain silly. Most tracks pay top 3 in a heat finish. He's out that extra money to ensure he pays everyone to start the main. Sounds like a helluva good promoter to me to try to take care of his patrons in these hard financial times!

Just for JD and the other concession connoisseurs, the BBQ samiches are quite tasty out there in Lincoln County.

Dirt-Mod 12, Thanks for answering my question, I to like Outlaw , nice place and runs it pretty good and you speak wise of how promoters are running their shows in these tough economic times.Just wish OMS served Ice Tea, but good to hear what other people think (Opinions) on what track they think runs it the right way and does it best.

Those BBQ sandwiches are tasty at BMS, had one a while back earlier in the season when taking in a show at the place , but did not get one last Friday as the Free Hot Dog night was to much to resist and had me several of those and ya know those might have been Hornets instead of Yellow Jackets , but just remember they had a large hotel/nest built and would get quite pissed when you walked up to buy your pit pass, funny that it never seemed to bother the folks taking money at the Pit Window , they sure were brave hombres, guess the Waltons or whoever was running the place back then (Can't Remember just to many owners) must have had em there so if you did'nt pay for a pit pass they would come after ya and it saved on paying security people.

When we were racing we would have 4-5 cars per heat so everyone could earn more points as well as not tearing up cars and not making the features. Seemed our points were 1-50, 2-40, 3-30, 4-20 and 5-10.

I kinda miss racing but I sure enjoy watching!

Just wanted to pop in and say a very big THANK YOU to the folks who can see the effort that Mark and our crew is putting into the track! I too raced at Lincoln County Speedway in the 80's and 90's and I also remmber what a complete shithole it was. Basicaly we raced there because it was close to the house. Track was small, basically a bull-ring, pay changed fro week to week at the whim of the promoter, when it rained we would be stuck in the pits until 3am. Guardrails were dangerous, constantly being torn loose. Facilities were nasty at best. In fact at one point almost all the pro-stock drivers left the track and were running at other tracks because of the crappy management. As for the 4 car heats you are correct in your explanations of why it is done that way. Mark feels that more cars per heat at least increases the odds of more crashes, which would mean fewer cars in the main, and the possibility of dragging out a show. It also keeps the points race closer. In our early years it wasn't hard for one driver to have the points championship nailed by about 3/4 of the season. By keeping the gap closer, it makes for a better points battle. We are by no means done making changes. And appreciate CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, as it helps us see where we might make things better. I don't think there is anything we can do about the dust, though! Please keep coming out. Try to remember that we are a toddler, barely 6 years old, we will get better, bigger, nicer, it will just take time!!!!! Mark has some great ideas for the future of the track including trying to get the races televised!!! Perhaps watching from the comfort of your air-conditioned home would be he cure for the dust problem!

Haven't made it out to BMS yet this season but I'd like to before the year is out. I just want to place my 2 cents on what you said about the 4 car heats.

1) Entertaining race fans on the sport of auto racing is to produce racing excitement with passing of cars testing their machines against one another. As a 40+ year race fan, all I see four car heats do is string out and offer little passing thus producing less excitement. Sure there will be occasional good for car heats just like there are the occasional ho-hum 8 car heats. But as an average, there are more ho-hum 4 car races than there are 8 car ones. In fact, the difference in percentages about would be fairly great.

2) On one hand, it can be understood that a promoter would want to "salvage" his cars and save them for the feature (as you alluded to). This is 'almost' an admission to a paying fan that the track will offer lesser action early on for the hopes that the feature will be "the nights show". If it isn't (not all features are great), then the whole night goes into the tank. How does a fan feel about the show then? While this approach is different in nature, promoters all across the country DO NOT submit to this philosophy for the fear factor that their program would be "watered down".

3) As for the reasoning that 4 car heats keep the "points battle" closer, I don't get that meaning at all. The cream always rises to the top, fast cars prevail. Thats just racing. Using inverted heats based on points, Your top cars are going to pass 3 cars in a heat way more readily than they will pass seven. Thus this reasoning is hard to understand.

I hope for the future success of BMS (as I do all tracks). As a "fan" of the sport, I want as many cars on the track at one time as much as possible for the maximum amount of competition. I don't believe placing a few cars at a time on a track is very entertaining. Works for drag racing but not for dirt track racing.

Let me chime in on this a little bit. Last Tues sport mod show and last nights heats had at least six cars in each heat when car count allowed it. So Mark is willing to work with everyone on making the racing better. There were even seven cars in an heat at one point.

Some of the best racing of the night last night was in the heats.

We're not perfect, and yes there is definately room for improvement, but the whole BMS crew is working hard to do a little better each week. Some weeks we are succesful at that goal, some weeks not so much, but you gotta crawl before you walk.
