LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS START SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON SATURDAY AT THE PAS!
(JULY 1, 2010, LAKESIDE, CA) The California Lightning Sprint Car Series will begin the second half of the 2010 season this Saturday night, July 3rd, at Perris Auto Speedway. Joining the CLS on the program, which is being presented by the City of Perris and Budweiser, will be the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the biggest and best fireworks show in Riverside County. Spectator gates will open two hours early at 3:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.
"This is always a big show and we open the gates a couple hours early so the lines are not to long at the ticket windows," promoter Don Kazarian said. "For the fans who arrive early, we will have a live band and the drivers will compete with the kids in games including water balloon toss and three legged races. The kids will also have hot dog and watermelon eating contests. All of the drivers and cars will be available for photos and autographs as well. Then at intermission we will have a great fireworks sky concert. It is going to be a fun night with lots of great racing."
The series wrapped up the first half of the campaign two weeks ago at Chris Kearns' Santa Maria Speedway. Spring Valley's Jarrett Kramer recorded his second main event win of 2010 at Santa Maria. Corey Ballard of Orange, Dan Hillberg of Placentia, El Cajon's Robert Wilhelm and A.J. Bender of Ramona rounded out the top five.
Heading into the second half of the season Bobby Bender, the elder sibling of A.J. and also a resident of Ramona, leads the points standings. A.J. is 34 points behind in second. Kramer is third at the halfway point with Hillberg and Anaheim Hills racer Guy Maresch rounding out the top five (the top 20 in points is available below).
In addition to leading the point standings, Bobby Bender has dominated the main event victory list in 2010. He has won five of the season's first ten races. Kramer, with two wins, is the only other driver with more than one victory thus far. Hillberg, Ballard and Johnny Bluntach of Rowland Heights have notched one win each.
Through the first 10 races of the campaign, only six drivers, Bobby & A.J. Bender, Hillberg, Maresch, Wilhelm and Anaheim's Dale Gamer, have started every main event.
