After an agonizing stretch of five rain outs during the month of June, the Upper Midwest Sprintcar Series (UMSS) is glad to see July roll around. The UMSS will attempt to complete its fourth show of the 2010 season on Friday night July 2 at the Kopellah Speedway near St. Croix Falls, WI. A favorable weather outlook should hopefully allow local area 360 sprint car teams the opportunity to finish a full show, as twice in June races were started only to have rain cancel them after the heats. Three times during June at the Kopellah Speedway, the UMSS never even got a chance to get a program underway.

With very limited opportunities to race in recent weeks, a strong field of cars is expected on July 2. Many drivers have not had the chance to tear up much equipment, so a good share of the cars should be in race-ready condition and anxious to turn some laps. GRP Motorsports is increasing the first place payout to $1,000 to win.

Although it is not a UMSS event, local area 360 sprint car drivers and fans are encouraged to attend the IMCA Sprint Car Special at the Arlington Raceway on Monday July 5. With additional money put up by the Arlington Raceway, and with some support from GRP Motorsports, the top three positions have a solid payout of $1,000, $700 and $500 respectively. The gear rule will NOT be in effect. Also, the draw/redraw method for lining up the heats and feature race WILL be in effect. Stated GRP, "Hopefully some of the UMSS drivers will head down to the Arlington Raceway on Monday July 5, and we can have a good night of sprint car racing to complete the long Fourth of July weekend. With so many area races lost to the weather already this year, the July 5 show provides them with another chance to race with a solid payout up for grabs."

Other area sprint car events this long weekend include the World of Outlaws at Husets Speedway on Thursday night July 1 and North Central Speedway on Saturday night July 3. Arlington and Jackson are also racing on July 3 while Redwood Speedway runs on July 4. If I missed any, please add them to the bottom of this post. Let's go racing!

I plan on attending the July 1 WoO show at Husets, the July 2 UMSS event at Kopellah, and the July 5 IMCA special at Arlington. Gonna throw in the Viking MN Mod Nationals at Alexandria on Saturday night, and take in one late model show on Sunday night at Eagle Valley. I'm hoping to put together a stretch of five straight nights of racing! Smile

Kopellah will be my only race this weekend. We'll be spending some time at my brother-in-law's lake home and starting some big home repair projects that will continue through my two weeks of vacation.
