I tried to take the survey so that I could make an educated response... and got a message that I had already taken the survey. Which I hadn't.
OK...
You can look at the survey any way you'd like... it's all in your own perception. If you think the survey is where you voice your opinion on how things should be run, reread the intention before you take or attempt to take the survey. They're compiling demographic information to present to potential and current sponsors.
Nothing more & nothing less.
Income, age, male/female... that is as basic as it gets, friends.
I think a lot of people get concerned in today's information age that the IRS will come knocking on your door after the survey... that your name & information will be sold to marketing companies and telemarketers... all kinds of awesomeness.
It would appear that the WoO wants to compile data and say "this is our average consumer". That's extemely important when they try to make a tough sell, as any sell would be in the current economy.

Self reported survey data is suspect at best. There are many ways to get the demographics of the race fan without soliciting via email for anwers that are not accurate.

I also tried to take the WoO survey and it said I had already taken it as well, which I didn't. I think it is a good thing the WoO organization wants it's fan's opinion. Williams Grove also recently ran a survey and the person running it gave the fans feedback on their message board of those who had taken it. I don't think either group is trying to hide anything. I think it is refreshing that they are being pro active.

I was able to take the survey just fine. My three responses for how to improve the shows were autograph sessions before the races, black flags for drivers intentionally stopping on track to cause a yellow (when they bypass the chance to get off the track) and make Sammy smile more!

Hellooooooooooooooo... this is not rocket science.
You have a rare opportunity to give some solid feedback, so here is your chance to give it in their survey.
Maybe a few couple good ideas will come out , maybe nothing will get implimented. But at least its going it WoO managements general direction.

"They're compiling demographic information to present to potential and
current sponsors."
Exactly.
I dealt with several companies this past off-season who were interested in sponsoring a midget team but wanted to see this kind of stuff. When I contacted one organization to see if they had this kind of data available, they told me their demographics were as follows: "average attendance is 100 to 10,000 people" and "average age is infant to elderly". Well, that's helpful.

The info requested is exactly what is needed by any marketing manager contemplating sponsorship. I tried to put together a sponsorship proposal for a driver about ten years ago for the company I worked for. (Fortune 500 sponsoring a Nascar team). I worked closely enough with marketing to know about what I needed to provide for any chance of $. Got absolutely no help from the WOO (previous owner) and could not even get any attendance figures. They are asking for only basic info, and as I recall the questionaire, the categories were pretty broad. Sprint cars need all the sponsorship they can get and if I can help by providing some basic info, ask away!!
As for other ways of getting demographic info, most that I am aware of require a zip code or address or some other identifier (SSN). Only source of that would be mail order tickets, and how many of us order our tickets in advance. I know I stopped doing it after a couple of rainouts. I'll take my chances at the gate when I know the show is going to happen.

I don't think I am the only "puter challenged" person on here.
Would one of you kindly provide a workable link for us?
thanx,

Thanks for the link... it's interesting that I clicked YES to join their fan survey group and they have no way to reach me. I didn't enter my email or anything... wasn't asked to. They're either sloppy or mindreaders.
For the sake of professionalism... they ought to think about improving their I.T. skills. Initially couldn't use the hoseheads link on the press release (said I already took the survey), it wasn't on the WoO website, they ask me to join a group and don't have any way to reach me, I just took the survey TWICE to make sure it wasn't me on the glitch... this is amateur hour.
Someone may say it was the others trying to help that created the issues... so be it. Police your own survey and its usage or don't allow anyone to help if that's the case.

I don't consider myself ignorant, but there are things on that survey that is nothing but a ploy to compile a list to sell to other marketing folks. What difference does it make to someone running a dirt track race, if I am considering buying a mattres in the next 6 months. That and some other questions seem other than just trying to mak WoO races better. That is not whinning.

Why are some of you people reading so far in to this? The WoO is compiling information to bring to potential sponsors to show how their name in front of us would be a benefit to them. As far as buying a mattress, that would matter if you were a CEO of a national furniture chain and the WoO approached you with a proposal for sponsorship.
"Look right here Mr. CEO, there are 25,000 people that attend WoO events across the United States that intend to buy new bedroom sets in the next year. Don't you agree it would benefit you to have "company name" in front of them while they are spending their entertainment dollars at the sporting event they love?"
You same people that are pissing and moaning about this survey are the same ones who like to piss and moan about everything. I have nothing to hide so I gladly filled out the simple survey and answered every single question honestly. If taking 5 minutes out of my time helps generate sponsor interest, it is the least I can do.

I received this survey request in my e-mail. I believe the original intent was to send it to everyone who is a member of something with WRG (I get their "Slider" newsletter, I think because I voted in one of their Alltell things during Volusia a couple of years ago). There was a link in the e-mail that took you to the survey...that's how I figured they would keep track of who is taking the survey.
They should have seen it coming that this would get posted all over the net, so I think your "police your own survey" point is the correct one. I don't think they intended for anyone and everyone to take THIS survey...hopefully they had another one in the works for everyone not on their e-mail list. But I can't say that for sure!
