We had a group of 4 sprint car fans from the Santa Maria area drive up to Watsonville to watch the USAC/CRA race and we planned on camping. John Prentice let us set up in the pits before the event for free. There was a slight confusion as to when we needed to clear the pits before the races and so we were heading out of the pits to go pay for our grand stand tickets at wheel packing when he saw us. He at first was concerned that we were sneaking in as he had forgot who we were (understandable with all a promoter has to do) so he wanted to see all of our pit passes. We told him we were the campers and we were heading out to go buy our entry at the front gate. He walked us around and just as we were about to go to the line to pay he said, "You know what? Just go on in and have a great time! Just make sure to buy plenty of beer!" He saved our group a collective $80 and we made sure to return that to the concessions and beer booth several times over. He was just happy we had come all the way up to watch at his track and showed "HIS" appreciation. Super cool gesture.
The next morning my brother and I sat and shot the bull with John's father Dutch, for close to an hour, he was outstanding. Super nice and just a treat to talk to. We will be back guaranteed and we will bring even more people with us you can count on it. Oh and their track has hands down the best track food I have ever eaten. Nothing is even close. BBQ'd chicken kabobs and beer...mmm!
Thank you again John from Matt Mussell, Randy Mussell, George Mann and Tyler Mann. It was George and Tylers first trip to Ocean Speedway and they were very, very impressed.
