It was a very scary looking crash. Here's hoping that Danny has a full and speedy recovery.

Good grief!!! Scary
Ever since Billy Wilburns ride at the Nationals in turns 1 and 2 I still say they need to look into a remote shut-off switch like they use in Monster Trucks in case someone gets out of control or knocked unconscious.

Scary is right. Danny doesn't operate with a lot of money but he always shows up at the Nationals and races all out. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet in the pits!

Move the ignition switch from the dash to one of the spokes on the steering wheel....while not a perfect solution, a driver can "feel" his way to the switch and kill the mag, rather than try and "look" for the kill switch while driving a runaway race car............Not unlike the NASCAR kill switch.....

Moving the kill switch to a spoke on the steering wheel won't help much. A remote kill switch would be a little better, but only a little. Whether it's the driver, or a person watching the car, there's no guarantee that they'll recognize a stuck throttle on a sprint car in time to engage it. I'm guessing that if Danny's car had a remote kill switch it still would have been in the fence before the mag died.

Just wanted to let you all know how Danny is doing. I just got off the
phone with his wife as he was being wheeled back into his room from a
scan.I heard him talking.
Danny has a triple fracture in his L4 vertebrae, but its stable. He? had
small bleeding happening in his belly, probably due to the force put on
his spine, that been stablized too. He injured an elbow and was having
a little bit of seepage...nothing major. Danny will have surgery Monday
Get well soon Danny. Hope all goes well with the surgery.

Just a little more info on what happened. It's been reported that when Danny got out of shape and began bouncing in turn 3 and bounced sideways into the pretty heavy and tall cushion, that the dirt actually pushed the side panel, below the header, into the car wedging against the throttle pedal. This wouldn't let the pedal return.
Kill switch, remote or not may not have helped prevent the actual accident, but could have been utilized to kill the engine as it ran free revving for 10 secs or so. Danny was out for a period of time after the impact. Not sure if he came to and killed the engine or if a safety worker or someone got to it first.
I know some teams run a heavier stainless panel down on that part of the car. Not sure what Danny's had on it, or if the heavier panel would have prevented what happened or not.
Hope all goes well and wish Danny a speedy and complete recovery.

But 30 or 40 remote kill switches being manned by personnel might become unmanageable; yeah, a crewman for each team should have some responsibilty here, but can you imagine the S*** when a switch is activated inadvertantly and costs a team a race win?!

Thats the last thing sprint cars need is a remote kill switch.

Then the next thing would be a remote steering wheel in a crew member's hands.
