What a nice tribute at Canyon Raceway to your mother and Jessie Hockett last week. I have never met either of them but it is clear they were both class individuals and loved sprint car racing as I do. Fantastic night of 360 non wing ASCS racing also ,with 27 cars in the pits. Before I make the 2 hour drive to Tucson.(and back to North Phoenix late Sat night 6-26) I would like to know if you would approve and if it would be possible to run your premier division 360 non wing ASCS sprint car main as your 1st main event after intermission so that they could race on your best track surface. Please advise and I would hope you would respond to this E mail in a professional manner and not be offended in a personal nature. ( this request may even get you a few more paying fans in the stands)

There is a right and a wrong way to address a race promoter. Scoreboard's request is the right way. JMO.

Yes you are correct Tripcrwn...but still no answer after over 1 week of posting...and we know Kevin Montgomery reads this message board. Guess I'll stay home in Phoenix this weekend...as it appears the Premier ASCS Division, fielding aprox 28 cars will get the last race of the night after the support divisions have reduced it to a worn out dusty track. Maybe someday Lonnie Wheatley could address this problem that has an easy solution !

And one more thing...based on the # of posts ...everyone else in Arizona has either given up or no longer cares. ....Really a shame....... Appears lots more interest in the Dunk Tank, Joust Off , Water Slide and the Slip N Slide and the band that will be playing as you walk in the front gate after you have paid your $ than the Main Event. Maybe I have got it all wrong !

I posted my email address and my phone number on your last post and invited you to call or email me if you wanted to discuss this and actually do something constructive for this sport. I am open to a phone call or an email and I am open to discussion but I am not open to a public debate on a forum.
"you would respond to this E mail in a professional manner" (Your Quote)
A post on a open forum is not an "E mail"
My phone number is 623-298-8061
Please feel free to call or "E mail" if you would like to discuss!
email [email protected]
"What is his E mail address and I will ? I also have seen other posts regarding this situation so I am sure others also have the same question...and would like to know the answer. Thanks for the suggestion." (Your Quote)
I replied with my phone number and email but I never heard from you. Please give me a call!

Trip, I too thought Scoreboard did a good job asking a question that many fans and drivers have....just goes to show what you and I know !! LOL
I still don't understand why Mr.Montgomery wont address the question here, so the masses can understand his position. Seems like the professional thing to do. IMO
Take it to the Top & let it Rock

If the intentions are valid then a phone call or email would be appropriate. Otherwise I can only assume the intentions are to bash. I invite anyone to call me or email, most know that I am easily available.
Thanks,
Kevin Montgomery

'At this point in time I believe it's best to continue with the format we have now, thank you for your concern.' This would have taken half the time and would have answered a paying spectators question,,,are you really wanting to turn away fans, you honestly thought this question was a trap ? the guy just wants to see a sprint car show and maybe get home a little earlier...nobodies trying to tell you how to run your track, just asking a simple question-which ,by the way other tracks have heard and reponded to....If your gonna snap every time some one ask you what you percieve to me a dumb question ...find a biz where you don't deal with the public, most of us could'nt run a successful racetrack...we need you to be successful for the good of racing...I'll make you a deal,if you read this and feel i'm bashing ,,,click on my name, email me your thoughts and I'll remove this post

Kevin
Any leader that takes the helm automatically has a target on his back. That is the way it is. Look at all the presidents, politicians on down to the service clubs, someone is always trying to knock them down, show them up or make them look bad. It is easy to do sometimes.
I was hoping to hear a good leaders response to a valid question from a cash holding race fan (cash still pays your salary I believe). Your response was a wee bit testy and not in the best interest of the good.
You could have done like race 88 suggested and clicked on the mans name and emailed him to personally answer his question. Perhaps you smashed your finger earlier in the day and was upset. Not a problem we can buy that. The vinegar and honey story grandpa told still applies.

The intentions are" valid," and this suggestion is " constructive for the sport" My posts have contained no bashing nor any attempt to hit the target on the leaders back, or show them up ,or make them look bad. It is simply thinking outside the box. Dirt tracks are closed or closing all around our area. I simply think it is a very constructive idea to put your premier sprint group on your best surface. I am not sure the support divisions tires care what surface they are on or how dusty it gets..The majority of your non wing cars are from Phoenix manzanita . I think you would grow your fan base from Phoenix with this move.We all could drive home an hour or more earlier. No I am not going to call you or E mail you as this has been done by others. From what I have heard other tracks have made this move. I have heard even Perris is doing this and it is working. I believe the open discussion is best so you can get a feel for what your other fans are thinking. I am truley sorry you are so offended.

I have learned the goal of USA raceway is to have the show complete by 10:30 PM. That puts us sprint car fans home in Phx at 12:00 - 12:30. This is very reasonable. I'll be there Sat the 26th and I wish a few hundred more fans would go and support this deal . 4 nights at Canyon in 2010 to see these guys race is just not enough for me.

Also from another fan's point of view, what you might consider to be the best surface in your eye's isn't always what put's on the best show as far as lot's of passing. As a fan I love when a track get's slicked off to a cushion and then sit on the edge of my seat and watch slide job city. That may mean it will be a little dusty and there will be some tire wear but, I'd rather see this happen over a fast, tacky one groove track and I'll bet most team's and driver's would too.

This subject and that same question has been asked and discussed on Robbie Allen's http://www.abcmotorsports.com/index.htm forum, and more than once. There have been debates or speculation about why they don't run the sprints earlier in the show. The usual suspect concession sales always come's up. I could be wrong, I was once, but I don't think Kevin responded to those questions on that forum either, and he's on it often.
This is not something that just a couple of malcontents and casual sprint car fans are concerned about, and to tell the truth, I was surprised when some of my hard core friends stated they would not go back to Tucson this year when we were at Canyon a few weeks ago. Both the track condition after all the other divisions ran their mains on it, and the late time factor were mentioned as the problem.
Dry slick and dusty at USA, doe's NOT equal a lot of slide jobs and passing, especially in a non wing car.
It's really not a complicated question Kevin, and one that you obviously have given some thought to. I'm sure it's one question that has a simple answer from a promoters perspective, why not share it? The answer can't be take more fans out of the seats, than your refusal for at least a compromise has.
Kenny

Kenny, again you show your ignorance, keep up the good work and maybe soon, with people like you, more dirt tracks will be out of buisness. Try to support the sport, maybe promote it, or maybe just stay on your boat and keep fishing.

I don't have a boat Kevin, but it seems you might just fall off your high horse though. I haven't been to Tucson since the Copper, and I only passed on what some very long time hard core fans passed on to me a few weeks at Canyon... And since you won't come by to pick me up for the long drive to your out of state races in Cali and New Mexico, I'll see you at Canyon.

I can't believe that I'm defending BIGFISH (we have passionately disagreed before), but Mr. Montgomery, if Sprint Car Racing is to survive it will be in spite of, and not because of, you and your attitude.

On a another first hand account most fan's casual and hardcore like to go into the pits after the races are over and if you run the Sprint Car's first on the night most people won't stay through the support div. main's and the driver's are going to lose out on t-shirt sales and more.
