Kid Rock was ending the show and he said if something was real then you would feel it. What he was referencing was country music but I think you can hold it to dirt track racing as well. How many of us have felt like our home is at a dirt track no matter where it was? You see those grandstands and your heart and your mind goes this is where I am suppose to be. If any of you saw the article in the Oklahoman back when the Fairgrounds was closing I said that place kept me out of trouble and parents watched over everyones else's kids. It did not matter rather it was Golsby Oklahoma, yes I went there once as a kid, or Lucas Oil. You felt the same way.
I am in process of getting a second car. I found a deal I could not pass up but I have never been less stressed in my life. Yes, I know racing is a money pit and illegal drugs might be cheaper than a race car, lol, but you know what I feel like I am doing the right thing. I have been to tracks throughout the region like many of you and each time I go I am excited.
I just hope that that pride, ownership, and being part of something never goes away with racing in Oklahoma. Yes, I know it took a hit when the fairgrounds closed but us as racers have never had anything easy.
What is funny as a kid I was in the car with my parents and we were near the Economy Square stores and I saw a factory stock. I was all excited and told my parents that look there is a race car etc etc. Fast forward some fifteen years and I was taking trips to Europe and I was finding race tracks from the air.
This sport we love will grab you and not let go. Once you get the bug the bug will stay with you forever. You might think oh I am retired but soon enough you are back in the mix.
