OCRS RETURNS TO MAS SATURDAY

By: John Lemon

Tulsa, Oklahoma (June 15, 2010)

The Oil Capital Racing Series sprint car open wheel warriors will return to the northern horizons of South Coffeyville Oklahoma this Saturday night and will once again take on the task of trying to conquer promoter Kenny Garris’ speed-plant known as Mid-America Speedway.

OCRS first visited MAS just last month, on Memorial Day weekend, where Broken Arrow’s Travis “Hollywood” Jenkins won his first race of 2010. Hollywood will look to make it two in a row at MAS when he and his OCRS peers come rolling back into town. The last time an OCRS driver won two in a row at MAS was last year. It was the only time the feat has been obtained. Two time defending OCRS champion, Jamie Passmore, was the accomplisher. The dates of victory were September 26th and then again on October 17th.

Another driver setting his sights on a 2-peat will be Jenkins’ teammate, Tulsa’s Mike Goodman. Goodman won the second annual “Harold Leep Jr Memoriallast Saturday night at the Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada over Oklahoma City’s Andy Shouse in a fiercely contested battle. Shouse was making his 2010 OCRS debut in the Butch Roberts #36 machine. Kyle Cobb of Newalla and Gary Owens of Pauls Valley were two other drivers making their OCRS season debuts at OSP. They had successful third and fourth place finishes to show for it. Owasso’s Matt Sherrell, a career OCRS multi time feature winner, rounded out the top five having returned to OCRS competition from participating in midget racing events in Kansas. The OSP event attracted a season high of 31 cars.

There are some strong contenders that are anxiously waiting their turn for glory atop the victory podium. Bristow’s Tim Kent has run solid all year as has Drumright’s Fred Mattox and OKC’s Shayla Waddell. Another young charger looking to snare their first place podium position is Kyle Clark of Sand Springs. Clark is a feature winner at the Creek County Speedway in 2010 in local action and would like nothing more but to take an OCRS trophy back home as well.

Mid America Speedway is a 3/10 mile / medium banked clay oval. Track location is: 2 miles south of the Oklahoma / Kansas state line just off HWY 169. Take HWY 169 to road EW-02 then go west 1/2 mile to racetrack.

Gates open at 5pm with racing getting underway at 8pm

OCRS drivers meeting will begin at 7pm.

Beau for sure will be there, but Whit is questionable, because he's fixing to be a daddy this week .... his new nick name will be "Mr. Mom"..... lol.
