Thank you to the PAS!
We would like to thank the Perris Auto Speedway and its Marketing Manager Tanner Watson for a great night of racing this past Saturday night, June 12. A group of more than 50 new race fans, that included several small children, piled into two rented vans and some personal automobiles to make the journey from Lakewood to the race track. The PAS donated several free tickets for the bar's benefit golf tournament.
Most were raffle winners and golf participants in our fifth annual Zanzabuku Sports Lounge golf tournament that benefited the Susan G. Koman breast cancer fund. The tournament raised nearly $1,000 for the fund and another $500 to the Bethany Lutheran School's after-school sports program. The tournament was held at Recreational Park in Long Beach on Sunday, April 24. Brett and Brody Roa brought their VRA sprint car to the Lakewood bar after the tournament and the race car generated several questions from the golfers. Also on hand were Tony Jones and USAC Midget driver Jake Swanson and his father Chris. All enjoyed the charity golf tournament.
The PAS donated tickets to each golfer and to the tournament's raffle for its June 12th race and the new race fans were treated to a great race. It was fun watching the new fans cheer for our favorite driver Tony Jones and the look on their faces as they watched the traditional sprint cars and their powerful 410 engines pound the well prepared half-mile dirt oval, was well worth the journey. Hopefully more new sprint car fans will be coming out in the future for the best racing on the west coast. Each and every one enjoyed the experience including the trip to the pits following the race. Tony was very humble and answered every question asked despite a flat right rear tire during the main event. Several of the younger group piled into the famous #4 Alexander sprint car for photos. To watch Tony Jones in the pits after a race is truly amazing as he takes time to answer every question, spending time with each child or adult as he signs his "Hero Cards" for his usual large group of fans. The son of Sprint Car Hall of Fame driver Bubby Jones is a terrific role model and spokesman for traditional sprint car racing.
The Zanzabuku Sports Lounge has raised more than $700 for the Alexander race team and Tony Jones holding a 50/50 draw each Thursday night. The fund raiser began on May 1, and has generated seven different winners. The draw is averaging $90 per night with a high of $113 last week. So-cal Performance's Steve Howard was on hand to participate in last Thursday's benefit. Come join us for some fun. The benefit fund will be awarded to the Mark Alexander team in August prior to their trip to the famous Calistoga Speedway scheduled for Labor Day weekend. The Lakewood bar will be hosting its annual benefit for the team in August with several new plans for this year's event.
Again we would like to express our sincere thanks to Don Kazarian, Tanner Watson, track announcer Scott Daloisio and the rest of the PAS team for making our group feel welcome. Thank you!
