I have been a sprint car fan since as long as I can remember. As an adult, I am now that dad sharing the sport with my son and family. It is another generation to love the sport. However, what will he grew up seeing over the coming years. I have seen the beginning of the WOO, the old conflicts of legendary drivers with the like in USAC and the Posse.....the world of sprint car racing has evolved so much in say the last twenty years. Soon a major change will happen and that will be Steve Kinser to retirement. Love or hate him....he is the greatest of all time. I will miss that number 11 when he does, but for now I will enjoy the time I have left. He is a key figure in our sport and that Q is a staple now in our sport. One thing that really bothers me lately is that someone like Tim Kaeding who even with Steve Kinsers support of a team and who is showing that he is indeed going to be one of the next gen greats was having a hard time finding sponsorship. He won more than anyone last year in the NST and I thought was a shoe in for the championship. He has one various outlaw and outside races this year too. Seriously, in the past a sponsor wanted this kind of driver....a winner. Sponsorship is a huge deal with our sport and if someone like this can't get a good deal with Steve Kinsers help at that we need to worry. There is TV stuff to come on bigger channels like SPEED and ESPN2 so maybe things will get better. I am sure all the turmoil the two series had from last year sure didn't help either. I don't want to sound like I am putting down the sport....I want it to flourish. I appreciate people like Kasey Kahne and especially someone like Tony Stewart for all of their involvement in our sport. Few people can truly help us right now and thankfully they are helping. There needs to be more big name people come in to drive up the popularity again. At my level, I am so small in such a big picture of things. I will do what I can and still go to those weekend shows and the big shows. I will do the grassroots support for my sport that I love. I want to see the sport grow and get better. I want the money to flow in......I want the drivers to be respected the way a NASCAR driver is. If this kind of series does not get more love, will the next Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart fall through the cracks. Some of NASCAR's best have come from this grassroots racing…they need to remember that. This kind of racing is so critical in the big picture of racing. All the powers to be need to stop the petty bickering and really get down to business. They need to plan for tomorrow just as they plan for today. Issues need to be addressed and things have got to be worked out for this sport to get better. I am just thankful that from what I heard Tony Stewart picked up Tim Kaeding for his race team car #2.. A guy like Tim is a proven winner…..he just needs a little support from some people around him to provide him the tools he needs to win. I will do what I can Tim…..you will see me soon…..I will be wearing that Tim Kaeding sprint shirt taking pictures of your car in the pits J Long live our sport and to those who do everything they can to make it succeed….I thank you and my son will also thank you.

Brent.

The first race I ever went to was to watch this car that my uncle and Mom's cousin were working on.

The significance of the #2 car is that it was driven by Jerry Richert Sr. before he ever won his first IMCA Sprint Car championship. The first Sprints I watched looked like this.

The sport has evolved from open trailers and home built cars sponsored by the neighborhood sewer repair company to over the counter fabricated machines hauled in transporters the size of a moving van. Ironically, this exotic equipment is pulling into the pit areas of the same tracks I was going to in the early 60's. The fencing is better, the stands are bigger and the lighting is fit for television but they still go fast and turn left on dirt. In some cases the same nuisance ruts develop in the same spots they did in the early 60's.

I still enjoy the sport but this elusive next level might never become a reality. If not I'll keep dragging my tired old *ss out there as long as possible. I really don't know much of anything else wink

I'm not sure if some of the kids entering the next level buy thier way in/bring money.

I don't believe TK has every brought money with him to the next level or for any level for that

matter.

So it becomes very difficult for a team to sponsor a young driver and what a sponsor likes/Quaker

State or anybody else is pretty obvious. Look at Kasey Khane, Jeff Gordon and any new and rising

star. There is politics, but I think it is fair to say any sponsor takes a big chance on any new

young courageous driver.

I do feel TK is the real thing and most sponsors will secumb to the fact that he should be given

a chance. Everybody needs a break. Wright Construction, Beefpackers, Steve Kinser

and now Tony Stewart is the list of a long line of sponsors that have given Tim everything they

could. I think he has given a fair bang for the buck. You are witnessing history in the making.

Marketability if there is such a word is now one of the qualifications one must have to be a driver. Corporate America now demands this. I think the influx of millions in sponsorship money has ruined Cup. I would hate to see that happen to the sprint scene. I realize the money it takes to run at the national level and to run competitively takes even more. I would hate to see Kinser jump in a helicopter after a race to do a personal appearance at some car dealership 2 states away. I don't know if sprint car racing is headed that way but I sure hope not. I'm old school and I just don't want to give that type of racing and the men that make great away yet.

Totally agree with ya sprintfan5! I am a mother of two boys and my parents took me to my very first WoO race before I was able to walk. I've carried the tradition on to my boys and now they are 10 and 12 years old and are just as hooked on the WoO's as I am. I would hate it if this sport EVER developed into what NASCAR is today.

I would hate it if the drivers got helicoptered in, or we had to wait in line for hours just to get a wrist band to get a spot in line to get an autograph from Steve Kinser, how rediculous (that's why I can't stand NASCAR, too much hype.) I don't want changes to the WoO's. I like it just the way it is, my boys and me can go see numerous races, even livin' in N'west Iowa, and meet the drivers AND their families. something that NEVER happens in NASCAR, and we don't have to pay hundreds of dollars for good seats or motel rooms.

Bja, I can understand your concern for TK, but please, from one sprint car fan to another, things in our little world are not that bad. TK is a great race car driver, don't worry his talent will not go unnoticed. I just hope my boys and my grandchildren, don't have to stand in line for hours on end for a stinkin' wristband someday to get his autograph.

Sprint car racing has gotten way too expensive. That's its main affliction. It wasn't always that way. Steve and Karl used to MAKE money racing even with little sponsorship. The actual truth of the matter is, he can probably afford to field a team for Kaeding, but it's gotten so expensive that he doesn't want to.

Steve and Karl made money cause they were the best and couldn.t be beat. You will never see domination like that again. Unless it's Rahmer racin against the 16 yr olds at Lincoln. He couldn't carry Smith and Allen's helmet bag, but I digress. As far as the Kinser's go, a big block and no rules didn't hurt either!!
