The racing world has some new rules for INDY, no racing, what the hell is a "penalty for blocking" damn near as bad as Nascars keep space between cars rule. Why even run the race just qualify em then give the fastest the trophy. What a joke!

pretty much exactly what I thought when I was watching. It actually made me ask myself what the future of racing might look like and it scared me. Concerning when rules are implemented to take racing out of racing.

I thought the "Push to Pass" button was a bit video-gamey too ... what's next - run over some lights embedded in the track when they're lit to get a "bonus turbo power-up boost"?

the race was not impressive at all. after the first "blocking penalty" i changed the channel. if they would just let them race and back off on the rules a bit it would be great.

Man, where have you guys been? The IRL has had a "no blocking rule for several years now - and they've enforced it before. Very few of the driver's complain about it, so I'd guess that it serves its purpose...well.
And if a guy has a run on you because he's faster, and you block him(force him to lift, or change his line), now how exactly is blocking someone fair? At 225mph, bad things can happen.....

when you have teams fielding 3 to 5 cars I would think blocking is a valid issue.

Thank you, Sprinter25. If you want to see an Indycar splat someone at 230mph... then yes, blocking rules are bad.
To anyone in the world that is half sober at least... blocking at 230 is absolutely ridiculous.you make a run on someone and they pull right in front of you at the last second? It was silly watching Rahal and Andretti's moves. They would have been punted out of the track or greeted "warmly" in the pits after a sprint car race.
No rules = great way to get someone killed at that speed.

no rules would be bad. i think they need to find that fine line where they can still let them race but still be safe. they all know the risk they take when they strap in, thats racing. but that race was horrible.

Blocking is NOT racing. Blocking is a chicken bleep move used by the unskilled. Forty years ago blocking in an Indy Car would get you pulled out of the car by the throat after the race. But now you have mostly rich boys who think blocking is normal.

I can just see some guy trying to block AJ at the 500! (or what would be left of him)

Bad things happen at 100 mph, but I doubt you would have many fans if you told sprint car drivers they would get a penalty for blocking. Push to pass buttons and this blocking rule should not be a part of racing.

Racing is dangerous ... If you don't like the game then don't play .... But I agree racing is getting real boring especially the IRL ..... As my Dad would say, "Looks like a high speed merry go round !!".
