CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS BEGIN BUSIEST PART OF SEASON SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!
(MAY 26, 2010, LAKESIDE, CA) After two weeks off the California Lightning Sprint Cars series will embark on its busiest portion of the 2010 season this Saturday night, May 29th, at the annual Salute to Indy at Perris Auto Speedway. Joining the Lightning Sprints on Saturday's racing card will be the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, USAC Ford Focus Midgets and the USAC Western Young Guns series. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.
Beginning with this week's race, the CLS will in action on four straight Saturdays. On June 5th the series will be at the Ventura Raceway for the second time in 2010. The series will return to its home track, Perris Auto Speedway, on June 12th and then head to the Santa Maria Speedway on June 19th.
This Saturday's race at The PAS will be the CLS fifth time on the Riverside County clay oval in 2010. However, the race will have a totally different look. For the first time this year, the cars will be racing without wings and they will be on the tracks inner quarter-mile oval. "The Lightning Sprints put on some great shows on our quarter mile in 2009," Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said on Tuesday. "The racing is always tight and there is a lot of passing. I look forward to seeing more of the same great racing on Saturday."
Heading into this Saturday's event, the 16-year-old series has produced four different winners in six races thus far in 2010. Ramona's Bobby Bender sits on top of the victory list with three wins. Johnny Bluntach of Hacienda Heights, Orange resident Corey Ballard and Lakeside's Jarrett Kramer have won the other three races. At the last race on May 8th at The PAS, Kramer emerged triumphant over Ballard and Bender's younger sibling A.J.
Kramer, who has yet to finish farther back than fourth in 2010, holds a commanding 131-point lead over A.J. Bender in the championship point standings. Bobby Bender is third, just 19 points behind his brother, with Bluntach and Kramer's brother Seth rounding out the top five (top ten in points can be found below).
