Ballou back in action this weekend following long lay off

By Gary Thomas

April 12, 2007... Robert Ballou hasn’t been in action for over a month, but that’s about to come to an end this Saturday as he and the Ballou Motorsports, MPHG Promotions No. 81 team compete in the USAC National Sprint Car Series season opener at Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon, Indiana. The USAC National Sprint Series was scheduled to begin the season on March 31 at Eldora Speedway, but inclement weather forced that night to be cancelled.

This Saturday’s event at the 3/8 mile dirt Twin Cities Raceway Park will be capped off with a 30 lap main event to kick off the 2007 USAC National Sprint Car season. The weekend was previously scheduled to be a two nighter with a Sunday race being contested at Anderson Speedway’s paved 1/4 mile. It would have been Robert’s first time running a pavement sprinter, but rain, snow and cold temps have forced race officials to postpone the 100 lap event until May 23rd. The postponement will now hopefully give Robert and the team more ample time to test in preparation for his pavement sprint car debut, which will now come in about a month.

Saturday’s event in North Vernon is still on as scheduled however, and Robert is eager to hit the track again. The Rocklin, CA native is coming off a year in which he was awarded the Golden State Challenge Series Rookie of the Year award and captured four main event victories at the ripe young age of 17. The now 18 year-old is set for a full season of wingless action as he competes with the ultra competitive USAC National Sprint Car Series aboard the Ballou Motorsports, MPHG Promotions No. 81, wrenched by Jimmy Jones.

Ballou Motorsports would like to thank all of our sponsors including: Gardemeyer Finish Carpentry, THR & Son's, Gliko Hardware and Construction, Swimming Pool Perfections, Schlage, Circle Racing Wheels, Pro Shocks, Bell, Design 500, Maxim, Don Ott Racing Engines, Rod End Supply, JB Racing Components, BSA and A.R.T. Speed Equipment.

Twin Cities Raceway Park is located in North Vernon, Indiana, 1.3 miles south of U.S. Highway 50 on State Route 7. Then go 1/4 mile east, then 1/3 mile north on the first
road after crossing bridge (Rockcrest Road)
