for those who could help........ I'm looking for any/all the information I can get on the Kansas Midget Klassic July 22 and 23 at Dodge City Raceway. Saw that last year there were 33 midgets and 29 ASCS sprints. But also saw that some Texas Oil Companies trumped up the 2 day purse to 30K this year. I didn't see many big name drivers on last years results (apart from Bacon). Considering the purse........how many could be expected to show? aside from that I saw they were also running HD Sprints and I'm not familiar with those........what are they?
I'm trying to get an idea of the size of the show as we would be making the trip from OKC and havin to drive back after the races sunday night to work on Monday. Any info would be helpful and greatly appreciated......

From memory.....
The "ASCS Sprints" were comprised mostly of the 10 cars from the Rocky Mountain Region....most of the NCRA regulars....and a few scattered midwest backmarkers. This year would be no Tony Bruce Jr, Gary Taylor, Steve King (R.I.P.). I would expect Garry Lee Maier to be there and run well, also Preston Peebles from Texas brought two sprints and ran the winged and non winged sanction last year.
The midgets would be headlined by the Tel*Star team that Bacon used to drive for. Now run by Gary Taylor and Matt Sherrell. Also could expect Rik Forbes and Cody Brewer. Likely see most of the 10 cars that run RMMRA and 15 that run SMRS.
I still have condensed galleries of photos from last year on my website if you are interested in some visuals. Bad light made em kinda suck that day....but it beat the hell outta any day not at the track!

Hope that helps!

I would think with the increased purse and the event being part of the money week, it should draw a large number of great drivers. The show also includes ASCS Sprints, Non-winged Sprints, and HD Sprints (305 Sprint Cars sponsored by Dodge City Harley-Davidson). It will definitely be a great open wheel event, don't miss it.
