Alex Johnson (May 24th, 2010) – This past weekend saw Robby Wolfgang and crew race three nights in three different states. Friday had Wolfgang in the Williams 7k 360 machine at Jackson Speedway, in Jackson MN for the JSTS Spring Nationals. Saturday was also aboard the 7k, but this time in the 410 division at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA. Sunday Robby was back in the Smith owned 33 at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD.
“I was looking forward to Jackson for the Spring Nationals this year, we have our 360 program pretty dialed in, but the track and draw didn’t allow us to do much Friday night,” explained Wolfgang. After starting 5th in his heat race with little passing, Wolfgang would end up 6th and have to start 7th in the B-Main. Once again, there was very little passing and young Wolfgang would finish the night a disappointing 8th place in the B-Main.
Saturday saw a new day and a new track; Wolfgang would continue to improve at Knoxville Raceway. After setting the 3rd fastest time behind Slammin’ Sammy Swindell and 3rd Generation McCarl, Wolfgang lined up 6th in the third heat and finished 4th. “Right off the bat Bruce had the car dialed in perfect, each week we makes the car better and better and this week was no different,” Wolfgang said.
After transferring out of his heat race, Wolfgang lined up 4th in the A-Main and would cross the line for the second Saturday in a row in 7th position. “The car was really good tonight, the more laps I get here the better I feel in the car, and I think we are on the right track, each week I’m looking forward to coming here more and more,” an excited Wolfgang said.
Sunday, Robby was back behind the wheel of the Smith 33 at Huset’s Speedway. With some fuel problems to start the night off Robby would have to start in the back of his heat race and would finish there on the bottom one-groove racing surface. Starting 12th in the fourteen car feature, Wolfgang could only go forward. On what provided little passing, Wolfgang ended the weekend with another top 10 finish crossing the line in 9th.
“We had some problems early in the night in Billy’s car, however we got the car fixed and dialed in and all I had to do for the rest of the night was focus on going forward. We keep learning something new each week and I think we are getting pretty close to knocking down another win there pretty soon,” said Wolfgang.
With Memorial Day Weekend on the horizon, Robby will be headed to four venues in five days. This week Wolfgang will be back at Greenwood, Nebraska’s I-80 Speedway in the Williams 7k 360. Robby will then be taking the wings off and racing Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, IA in the Smith 33 Friday night. Saturday will see Wolfgang back in the 7k at Knoxville Raceway, followed by a two day show at Huset’s Speedway in the Smith 33 to conclude the weekend.
