Alex Johnson (May 21st) With warmer temperatures finally arriving in the upper Midwest, Robby Wolfgang was able to get in three nights of racing this past weekend. “It’s nice to finally have some warm weather around here, it has been pretty cold and rainy lately and I’ve been waiting for this,” said Wolfgang.

Friday night saw Wolfgang racing the Bill Smith 33 at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa for their first 410 show of the year. After starting 16th, Wolfgang worked his way up to finish 7th at the checkers. “Bill always puts a nice car under me, and once again all I had to do was drive it, it would have been nice to start a little farther up front but I am happy with how we raced,” explained Wolfgang.

Saturday saw Wolfgang making his weekly venture back down to the famed half-mile at the Marion County Fairgrounds behind the wheel of the Williams 7k. After a strong qualifying run of 9th quick, Wolfgang would end up 4th in his heat race which would start him on the outside front row of the 20 lap A Feature. Robby would end up finishing his first full A Feature at Knoxville in 7th position. “Man, I can’t thank Bruce and Todd Williams enough, Todd had to go out to Ohio to pick up this motor Thursday and didn’t get back until Friday night, and Bruce just continues to give me a great car at each track we race at. I know the season is young and we have had some bad luck but we are really hitting a stride, I’m really looking forward to the next couple of weeks as we are going to some tracks that I am pretty familiar with and our 360 program is spot on,” Wolfgang said.

Sunday would see Wolfgang back in the Smith 33, this time at Huset’s Speedway. After some minor motor problems in both time trials and his heat race, Wolfgang would slowly work his way up to 8th from his 12th place starting spot, only to pull in a few laps later in the A Feature. “We ended up breaking a valve spring and having a couple weak springs, but my dad and Bill found them and got them fixed this week, so we should be set to go for next Sunday night,” explained Wolfgang.

This weekend Wolfgang will be in the Williams 7k 360 Friday night at Jackson Speedway for the Spring Nationals. “Last time I race at Jackson, we ended up 3rd behind Jake Peters and Justin Henderson, so I am feeling pretty excited for this race as Bruce always has the cars going good,” an excited Wolfgang said. Saturday Wolfgang and Williams will go back down to Knoxville Raceway to try for another top 10 finish and Sunday will see Wolfgang back at Huset’s Speedway to try and get his 2nd win of the season there aboard the Smith 33.
