Question for track promotors, drivers, and car owners.
Would like to get some opinions and insights on how your track handles the "end of the year points banquet".
We have tried several different ways, and can't seem to get alot of participation . We rent a super nice facility, provide a nice dinner, great trophies, alot of door prizes, etc etc. We honor the top 10 in each of 7 classes. Yet, instead of 70 drivers showing up, we had about 30-35 (barely half). It costs approximately $10,000. to put on this banquet, and seems like they don't appreciate it.
Thoughts ???

Have the banquet at a local pizza parlor...let everyone order and pay for their own...hand out the trophies-door prizes and put the $10000 into the points fund -spread out through the whole finishing order...and no self proclaimed comedians...speeches should be ...'thanks guys' and no mention of sponsors

Have it the last night at the track, drivers and most car owners will be there and most fans would stick around after the show. Have a party and it's better than waiting until winter to get it over.

we have a silent auction memorbelia, car washes, windshields, oilchanges, souvineers, tickets, ect ect , The points eligible drivers (as per finishing order) are awarded "bucks" to spend on auctioned items at the end of the eavining (this thing goes on pretty late) gears, cams, tires, engines, tools, apparel, ect ect is auctioned off, each class has a specific item/items taylored to thier class and usefullness, Another Banquet Idea (Ive participated in) and my favorite, is a poker tounament, with prizes aimed to each class, last one standing at the table gets his pick fom items , this was exceptionally fun, crews can help thier drivers stradegy (no radios permitted although I suppose you could wear your helmet?( (this is NOT strip poker ) maybe female substitutes could buy in?? humm? this might work?anyway..
In close responce to the banquet question, I have a similar question? we have a off season car show, the fan, driver, crew interaction is less than par, how can we make highlights capable of creating more interaction with the plublic and joe racer? what are your local racers, clubs, and organizeations doing to promote and interact with racers, fans, plublic? we need some new/good ideas?

Be glad that only 35 show up; if all 70 attended, and just spent 2 minutes on stage accepting their award, you'd be taking up over 140 minutes... that's 2 + hours dealing with fairly meaningless awards(meaningless to those in other classes). Add a dinner, and a few speakers to that formula, and my butt would be numb, and I'd be bored to death.........4-5 hours spent.....
Chuck.....

Do you pay a point fund? If so, no show = no dough...plain and simple.
