Knoxville Raceway

31 410s

35 360s

18 305s

410s

Ian Madsen (4th car out to time) set quick time over the field on a dry-slick surface at 16.068 seconds. Dusty Zomer (29th car out) was second quick, followed by Bronson Maeschen (21st), Josh Schneiderman (1st), Brian Brown (26th), Don Droud Jr. (2nd), Lynton Jeffrey (5th), David Gravel (3rd), Robby Wolfgang (8th) and Mark Dobmeier (15th).

Heat one (started): 1. Jeffrey 12 (4) 2. Dobmeier 13 (3) 3. Tony Bruce Jr. 18 (1) 4. Madsen 55 (6) 5. Schneiderman 49 (5) / 6. Davey Heskin 56 (10) 7. Scott Winters 23w (2) 8. Rager Phillips 10 (8) 9. Phillip Mock 1m (9) 10. Mike Moore 69 (7) DNS - Kyle Hirst 6

For the second time this year, Hirst was unable to turn a lap in a heat race at Knoxville. Jeffrey lead the 8-lap distance. Moore stopped on lap two to bring out the only caution. Heskin made a strong charge, but his run on the cushion wasn't enough to overtake the last transfer and Schneiderman on the bottom.

Heat two (started): 1. Skip Jackson 2 (1) 2. Ricky Logan 10a (2) 3. Brown 21 (5) 4. Zomer 91 (6) 5. Gravel 89G (4) / 6. Austin McCarl 17a (9) 7. Mike Deavers 72 (3) 8. Ryan Bunton 6R (7) 9. Bob Weuve 19 (8) 10. Sid Blandford Jr. 7 (10)

Jackson led flag to flag. Brown moved up well on the cushion, while Zomer followed him by Gravel. McCarl made a bid the last few laps for the final transfer, but didn't get it done.

Heat three (started): 1. Droud Jr. 47 (3) 2. Maeschen 1 (6) 3. Bill Rose 6x (1) 4. Wolfgang 7K (4) 5. Kaley Gharst 14P (5) / 6. Jacob Ossenfort 99J (7) 7. Mark Shirshekan 3 (9) 8. Scott Uttech 3K (8) 9. Mike Reinke 02 (2) DNS - Brian Paulus 28

Paulus scratched after time trials. Droud circled the front row and led every lap. Reinke hung tough in second until his car faltered on lap three and went pitside. Maeschen did well to move up from row three. Gharst held off Ossenfort for the final transfer.

B main (started): 1. Winters (2) 2. Heskin (12) 3. Phillips (6) 4. Deavers (1) 5. Bunton (3) 6. Moore (4) 7. Weuve (5) 8. McCarl (10) 9. Shirshekan (13) / 10. Ossenfort (9) 11. Mock (7) 12. Uttech (8) 13. Blandford (11) DNS - Reinke, Hirst, Paulus

McCarl was sent to the tail for jumping on the first start. Winters led throughout the non-stop 12-lapper. Heskin moved forward quickly, and was in a transfer by the halfway point. He would continue up to second on the last lap. Deavers, Bunton and Moore staged the best race of the event, slicing and dicing for fourth, fifth and sixth for most of the way.

A main (started): 1. Dobmeier (1) 2. Brown (6) 3. Droud Jr. (5) 4. Jeffrey (4) 5. Gravel (3) 6. Schneiderman (7) 7. Wolfgang (2) 8. Zomer (9) 9. Maeschen (8) 10. Rose (11) 11. Bruce Jr. (13) 12. McCarl (23) 13. Jackson (14) 14. Madsen (10) 15. Logan (12) 16. Gharst (15) 17. Winters (16) 18. Bunton (20) 19. Moore (21) 20. Weuve (22) 21. Shirshekan (24) 22. Deavers (19) 23. Heskin (17) 24. Phillips (18)

Dobmeier led early in the 20-lapper. Phillips was eliminated when he spun on lap two, and repeated that on the restart. The rest of the event went non-stop. Gravel, making his first appearance at Knoxville, hounded the leader in the early stages. When Dobmeier hit the high side, Gravel stuck his car down low and took the lead on lap seven. Dobmeier recaptured it the next go-around. Gravel did not go away, but Brown and Droud eventually worked by him. Dobmeier used the cushion to pass most lap cars in turns one and two, while most remained downstairs where a patch of rubber had developed. No one seriously challenged Dobmeier in his sixth career win at Knoxville. It was worth $3,000. McCarl was the hard-charger, moving up eleven spots.

360s

Clint Garner set quick time at 16.142 seconds after coming out in the first group of 360s to hot lap/time. Dustin Selvage was second quick, followed by Lee Grosz, Bryan Dobesh, Dennis Moore Jr., RJ Johnson, Jesse Hockett, Russ Hall, Matt Moro and Nate Van Haaften. Tony Shilling and Ryan Bickett were DQed for not reporting to the scales.

Heat one (started): 1. Chad Humston 1m (1) 2. Joe Beaver 53 (2) 3. Garner 40 (6) 4. Moro 2m (4) / 5. Moore Jr. 2 (5) 6. Brett Mather 17G (7) 7. Jamie Ball 5J (8) 8. Tom Lenz 8L (3)

Humston dominated the 7-lapper for the distance. Garner moved up well, and looked fast. For the first time, the 360 heats took the first four finishers to the A main and did not use passing points.

Heat two (started): 1. Ryan Roberts 18 (1) 2. Selvage 7 (6) 3. Randy Martin 14 (3) 4. RJ Johnson 71 (5) / 5. Tony Shilling 47T (9) 6. Van Haaften 3 (4) 7. Joe Miller 78 (2) 8. Chad Heimbaugh 04 (7) 9. Haley Arnold 165 (8)

Roberts took off to win flag to flag. Selvage moved up nicely from sixth.

Heat three (started): 1. Johnny Anderson 7a (2) 2. Jonathan Cornell 28 (1) 3. Jon Agan 4 (4) 4. Grosz 4J (6) / 5. Hockett 77 (5) 6. Danny Heskin 6 (7) 7. Casey Friedrichsen 20 (8) 8. Ryan Bickett 17B (9) 9. Tasker Phillips 7TAZ (3)

Anderson led the distance, but under pressure from Cornell.

Heat four (started): 1. Josh Higday 10 (3) 2. Gregg Bakker 11x (2) 3. Ricky Montgomery 9m (1) 4. Dobesh 54 (6) / 5. R. Hall 45c (5) 6. Schneiderman 88 (8) 7. John Hall 7H (4) 8. Mike Williams 4m (9) 9. Alan Zoutte 33 (7)

Bakker led early with Higday in tow. Higday would take the lead with three to go. Dobesh outdueled R. Hall for the final transfer.

B main (started): 1. Moore Jr. (1) 2. Hockett (2) 3. Van Haaften (4) 4. Mather (9) / 5. R. Hall (3) 6. J. Hall (5) 7. Phillips (7) 8. Heskin (11) 9. Heimbaugh (8) 10. Shilling (16) 11. Friedrichsen (15) 12. Bickett (18) 13. Miller (6) 14. Ball (13) 15. Arnold (12) 16. Zoutte (10) 17. Williams (17) 18. Schneiderman (14) DNS - Lenz

Moore Jr. pulled away to win the non-stop 10-lapper. The car on the move was Mather, who won a battle with R. Hall for the final transfer.

A main (started): 1. Higday (2) 2. Agan (4) 3. Garner (10) 4. Dobesh (7) 5. Roberts (14) 6. Moro (5) 7. Anderson (11) 8. Selvage (9) 9. Martin (3) 10. Humston (13) 11. Hockett (18) 12. Van Haaften (19) 13. Montgomery (16) 14. Moore Jr. (17) 15. Beaver (1) 16. Mather (20) 17. Grosz (8) 18. Cornell (15) 19. RJ Johnson (6) 20. Bakker (12)

Higday led the 20-lap distance with authority, albeit with a few slowdowns. Bakker looked to have something break and the car veered right into the wall coming out of turn four. The car flipped hard but Gregg was o.k.. On lap seven, Grosz was running eighth when he spun, collecting Cornell who got upside down. No one was injured. The restart saw Higday ahead of a pack of four including Agan, Beaver, Martin and Garner that was putting on a show for position. Dobesh entered that fray after teh restart, and on lap thirteen, Beaver would retire out of third when he lost his left rear wheel. The green, white, checker finish saw Higday hold off the rest for his 17th career win tying him for fourth with Martin on the all-time Knoxville list. Roberts was the hard-charger.

305s

Heat one (started): 1. Jamie Ball 5J (4) 2. Bob Hildreth 55KC (6) 3. Austin Johnson 81 (5) 4. Alan Ambers 93A (1) 5. Nick Ross R99 (3) 6. Chris Maurer 55x (9) 7. Casie Shilling 16c (2) 8. Matthew Stelzer 99 (8) 9. Steve Palmer 2 (7)

Action saw Ambers contact Johnson. The incident saw Palmer veer about the cushion, make contact with the wall, and flip hard. He was unhurt. Stelzer was also caught up in the mess and done for the night.

Heat two (started): 1. Matt Stephenson 55 (1) 2. Mark Widmar 7w (2) 3. Steve Breazeale 57 (9) 4. Marty Stephenson 36 (5) 5. Chad Huston 7c (7) 6. Dave Saffell 18 (4) 7. Mike Van Haaften 33 (3) 8. Mitchell Alexander 6 (6) 9. Bob Lamb 47 (8)

Lamb flipped hard after jumping a wheel down the front straight. He was helped from the wreckage, and he walked to the ambulance to get a check up.

A main (started): 1. Johnson (5) 2. Breazeale (6) 3. Marty Stephenson (8) 4. Hildreth (3) 5. Alexander (15) 6. Zoutte (14) 7. Ball (1) 8. Shilling (13) 9. Ambers (7) 10. Matt Stephenson (2) 11. Ross (9) 12. Widmar (4) 13. Saffell (12) 14. Maurer (11) 15. Huston (10) DNS - Stelzer, Palmer, Lamb

Matt Stephenson led for much of the 12-lapper. Huston exited early, and Widmar limped off after heavy contact with the backstretch guardrail shredded his right rear while running third. Breazeale moved up to second, before Johnson surged by several cars and past him. Matt Stephenson had taken the white flag, when he tried driving around the lapped car of Ball on the backstretch. Ball drifted into him, crippling his machine. Ross had nowhere to go, and got into Stephenson, flipping twice. He was unhurt. Johnson inherited the lead and won his first feature at Knoxville.

Interesting the little difference in fast times between the 410s and the 360s.

Is there a reason the 305 times never get posted? They have transponders like the rest of the cars.

I was just wondering what some of their lap times were compared to the other classes. Do they time them in hot laps to show the fastest car during that session like the others?

The 360's qualified before the 410's and the track seemed to go away in a hurry. I watched Dustin Selvage during his session. He started out turning around 16.2 and was doing 16.8 and 16.9 by the end of his session.

So they take 5 cars out of each heat and 9 from the B? That's strange. I guess they don't like the number 6?

Re: 9 cars transfer from 'B' Very odd indeed. Why not invert 8 and take 6 with a 6 transfer B?

It couldn't have been the weather threat as it was lucky not to have a melee starting 13 or what ever they did start in the B.

This 3 classes every other Sat. night is really dragging the show out, I hope they address that before they end up with virtually no one in the stands soon.

If it wasn't for the red flags the show would have been over by 10. I really thought they keep the whole program moving, Great job officals.

Mark: I agree the reds slowed it up ....but red flags are part of the deal.

The few people I work with that have went off and on hear or read the show wasn't over until 11ish.

And they were pushing the show really fast to beat the weather. Good thing they did as it was close to a shortened show.

15 races are on average bound to have more delays for various colored flags and intermissions etc. than 11. I just want the track to have fans ...I know what my co-workers have been saying about late shows (with kids) ....and it isn't good.

I think the reason it seems slow is the beginning of the night because 360s now only hot lap 5 cars at a time for qualifying. Good to see both Palmer and Lamb ok after their wrecks, both were pretty violent.

It was a good night for us Missouri guys, but after seeing the Goodyears on the 410's, they better step up before the 50 lap Nats. It will not be fuel stops that kill the show, come on Goodyear, you got into the game now work on making them last a night.
