It is with great sadness that I make known the passing of longtime friend and Kruseman crewman, Thomas McCune on May 13th.
Thomas managed Barry Avenue Plating in Los Angeles and was involved in racing for many years. His quality craftsmanship could always be seen on both Harlan Willis' & Cory Kruseman race cars. Upon his retirement, Thomas moved to Couer d' Alene, ID where he bought a large wooded lot to build lot to build a dream house for him and his family. There's not much racing around Couer d' Alene, ID.
Once a racer always a racer, Thomas returned to Ventura to go racing again with his friends. A big Kruser fan, Thomas occupied his weekdays chasing parts or whatever was necessary around the Kruseman ship. Saturdays were racedays and Thomas was the fuelman, ensuring Cory's car had plenty of fuel. On driving school Sundays, you could find Thomas behind the wheel of the push truck. It didn't matter to Thomas what he did he just loved racing with Cory & crew.
Thomas was admitted into the hospital with pneumonia in late March. A few days later it was discovered that the big C had set up residency within him. With the help of the VRA community, a private plane ride permitted Thomas to return to Couer d' Alene to be with his family. the support of his family & friends allowed Thomas to give his best fight to regain his health, unfortunately he could not meet the challenge.
Ironically, it was just last May that we lost Tom MacClaren. I'm sure both Tom & Thomas are sharing their best Cory stories with racing's greatest Heroes.
RIP my friends,
Mike Nigh
The McCune family would like all to know that plans are underway for a service on May 31st in the West Valley area; details shall be forthcoming in the next few days.
