Very nice gesture on the part Elk City's racing family to come together at a time like this. I hope that it is a very successful cause for Gene Cantrell and his family. Maybe this could rub off on the other racing community's as well when a fellow racer is in need. My prayers and get well wishes go out to Gene...

It would be a really nice gesture on the part of all drivers/owners and race tracks in Oklahoma and surrounding states. To give a portion of their winnings, or pass their helmets in the pits and grandstands on the same weekend as this benefit race at Elk City...

Took this off my website thought some of you guys that dont know Gene might want to know a little about him. This is his Profile,
I started racing in about 1982 after being dragged to the track by james and kenny[old man] bonner. after hot laps in kennys 64 ford I had to have one. finished 3rd first year then 1st the next 2 years before i quit running full years. I have met the best people at the race track, you can tell when the compassion is in the sport. I feel that the older racers had more respect for each other than now days, not to say that respect is not there today it is just not as noticeable I remember running 25 lap features at Quartz with justin north and being side by side and never leaning on each other. It has been fun watching the fellow racers kids grow up and become racers like TY north, jerad crosby, lthe bonner boys , ther are so many to mention. and to see the tradition continue. In my career I have won the points twice and finished in the top five almost every year that I raced. I have competed at Elk city, {both tracks} sooner{dirt} altus, woodward{cristal beach and drakes} ,clinton ,quartz, My biggest and best memories are the friends and the fact that my kids jeremy, amanda, and nick archer, dustin smith, micah killhoffer, who all won at elk city and some won points championships the short time they raced[ they smarter than the old man] and my wife Evelyn who put up with it all these years and thanks for terry and anita archer, gaines worley , loren nuttal for advice and support. there are lots of people that have helped me along the way here are a few - ed turley, james and kenny bonner, steve lewis, danny choat, john richardson, the archers, randy and charley thomas, dale larson, brad and gaines worley, curtis cook[miss ya] randy carr, and all the fans, all the peaple that put their time into the track. there are lots of unseen work that people take for granted. thanx everyone for the fun you have allowed. thanx lance for this site to keep in touch.

Hope you drivers and fans make it to this benefit deal for Gene. He is a racer you know. If I understand correctly, general admission is $5 and pit passes are $10 and all will be donated to Gene and his family. Lots of other stuff going on at the track as well....
