Alex Johnson (May 10th, 2010) – A weekend filled with high morale was tampered by some unexpected woes, as Robby would make his way down to Knoxville Raceway for the annual IRA/Knoxville Shootout.
As the 7th car to hit the track for time trials and posting the 27th fastest time, Wolfgang was less than satisfied. “It was a pretty good lap, but the car before me didn’t get off the track until turn four when I came around so I had to move a little higher up on the track than I wanted, but I was alright, the time I posted would have been 2nd quick last week but it wasn’t quite up to par this week,” explained Wolfgang.
Missing the invert for the heat races by three spots, Wolfgang lined up 7th in the third heat race. “Bruce had the car real good, and I passed guys on the top and passed guys on the bottom but came up one spot short of making the main,” Wolfgang said.
Having to run the B-Main, Wolfgang was schedule to start 7th but lined up 5th due to Davey Heskin blowing a motor in his heat race. “Bruce made a couple adjustments to the car after the Heat race and the car was just on a rail. I was up to 2nd and catching the leader when our motor blew up,” commented Wolfgang.
“It was a huge let down, Bruce is a genius when it comes to his motors. We just had a part failure and it disappointed all of us because we were looking pretty good in the B and looking forward to passing some cars in the A, but its part of the game and I know Bruce will have the car just as good, if not better for next week,” stated Wolfgang.
With Huset’s Speedway postponed until next weekend, Wolfgang will look forward to getting behind the wheel of the Smith 33 Friday night at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa as they will be having a Special 410 race. Then off to Knoxville Raceway to drive the Williams 7k on Saturday, and capping off the weekend at Huset’s Speedway Sunday aboard the Smith 33.
