Dan Simpson Racing Weekend Recap
May 11, 2010….Rio Vista, CA… It was two full nights of racing for the Dan Simpson racing team this past weekend at Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway. Team drivers Dan and Danielle Simpson are starting to gel with new crew chief and team as they competed at the super fast ¼ mile oval.
On Friday night the team competed in the Silver Dollar Speedway / Feather Falls Casino series. The night started with both drivers where off the mark in qualifying, with Dan timing in 23rd overall and Danielle 25th. Danielle was in the first heart and really had her elbows up finishing 5th and just missing the transfer to the main event. With just two laps remaining she was closing in on the 4th place car but laps ran out on the #6up DES Inc, DryVac, Simpson Percheron, Maxim.
Dan was in the third heat aboard his #4s DES Inc, DryVac entry and he change the momentum with a win over the hard charging young driver Brett Miller, to guarantee the 4s a main event starting spot, and earn valuable heat race points towards the 2010 championship
A star studded B-Main would transfer only four to the main event and Danielle had her work cut out as she started ninth. At the finish it was Jonathan Allard wining over Shane Stewart, Andy Forsberg and Mason Moore with Danielle in the 8th spot and watching her Dad in the A-Main.
In the A-Main, Dan started in the 17th spot and steered the DES Inc., DryVac, Maxim, Kistler powered #4s sprinter home in the 13th finishing spot with the win going to B-main transfer driver Jonathan Allard with Shane Stewart finishing second in an exciting battle to the finish. After the dust cleared on the Friday night action, both Team Simpson drivers moved up in the season points standings with Dan Simpson now in the 6th spot and rookie driver, Danielle Simpson in the 17th spot overall.
Dan and Danielle Simpson started Saturday with a 4am wake up to prepare for a parade in Dixon, CA with the World Champion Simpson Percheron Draft Horse team. After the parade they headed 2 1/1 hours North to Chico, CA for the 5th stop on the Golden State Challenge Series race at Silver Dollar Speedway. Again qualifying was not what the team had hoped, with a 31st qualifying run for Danielle and 28th for Dan. The team did not fare as well on Saturday night in heat race action as Dan finished 6th in his heat and Danielle 9t,h, with both needing to run the B-Main to earn a spot in the 40 lap Dave Bradway Memorial Main Event.
During the B-Main Dan and Mathew Davis got together and Dan flipped the DES Inc. DryVac sprinter off turn two, resulting in an 18th finishing position. Danielle who started in the 16th starting spot, finished 16th and a chance to head home for some well deserved sleep after the busy Saturday schedule.
Danielle dropped to 16th in te Golden State points with Dan dropping to 26th after the disappointing run at Silver Dollar on Saturday. The next race for the Father/Daughter team is this Friday night for the next round of the Silver Dollar point's series and then on Saturday the team heads south to the Groppetti Automotive Tulare Thunderbowl Speedway, for round six of the 2010 Golden State Challenge Series.
