VERSATILE MIKE KIRBY HEADS PAS LATE MODEL LINEUP THIS SATURDAY!
(MAY 4, 2010, PERRIS, CA) Multi-talented racing star Mike Kirby heads the field of Late Model drivers who will converge on Perris Auto Speedway for their second of five 2010 appearances this Saturday night, May 8th. In addition to the Late Models, the California Lightning Sprint Cars, PASSCAR Modifieds and the Street Stocks will all be racing on the quadruple header program. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 5:30.
Kirby had a huge lead in the Late Model main event when he broke a drive shaft at The PAS on March 27th. However, since that race the veteran star won the West Coast Late Model main event at the Bakersfield Speedway on April 24th and took third in the same series at the Tulare last Saturday night.
Earlier this season Kirby, who turned 46 last Saturday, easily outdistanced the field to win the season opening Modified main event at The PAS. Over the years the Torrance resident has won main events in more different types of racecars than any other driver in The PAS' history. In addition to Late Models and Modifieds, he has won in the USAC/CRA and SCRA Sprint Cars, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Cruisers and Figure 8 cars. In the 1980's he was a three-time NASCAR Figure 8 champion at Ascot.
Bobby Bender will be the man to beat when the Lightning Sprint Cars hit the track on Saturday night. The Ramona driver has taken the victory both times the series has been at The PAS in 2010. In addition, he won the main event last Saturday night at Bakersfield giving him three wins in the first five CLS races this year. The victory vaulted Bender from fourth to second in the standings. Coming into Saturday race, he is 85 points behind Spring Valley's Jarrett Kramer in the championship chase.
Riverside's David Lord will be out to make it two in a row in the Modifieds after outdistancing the field last Saturday. Top Street Stock drivers Curtis Dietzsch of Moreno Valley, Jake Everhart of Perris and Stephan Davies of Murrieta are hoping to get a break after rough outings last week. Dietzsch, a two-time track champion, was sent into the turn four wall by another car and failed to finish the main event. Davies, who was tied with Everhart for the point lead coming into the race, had to pit for a flat tire and finished back in the field. Everhart crossed the finish line second, but was disqualified for losing a muffler during the race. First time PAS competitor Bruce Johnson of Bakersfield won the 20-lapper.
