This Friday nights USMTS southern series event at Wild West Speedway in Clinton is the following is the information that I have received from USMTS president Todd Staley.
Pit gates open at 4:00 PM with grandstand gates opening at 5:00 PM. Hot laps will start at 7:00 PM with racing set for 7:30 PM. Grandstand tickets are $15 with pit passes $30. Only the southern sport mods will be the support division. If you would like more race information, head to their website www.usmts.com or contact Todd directly (515) 832-7944.
Not to scare anybody off but if their regular announcer can't make it then I have offered to announce for them.
Just a few of the drivers for the USMTS Castle Rock Southern Series that are expected to compete include the following, put in their position in the point standings: Jason Hughes, Morgan Bagley, Kelly Shryock, John O'Whittington, Bumper Jones, Randy Timms, Scott Green, Rodney Sanders, Dereck Ramirez, Steve Holtzcamper, Howard Willis, Tommy Weder, Jr., Ben Stephens, Shane Hebert, Grant Junghans, Stephen Whiteaker, Ricky Jordan, Troy Seidel, Bryan Rowland and Zack Vanderbeek.
Other drivers expected, including locally, include: Johnny Scott, Gene Weaver, Loggan Cabbell, Jay Sale, Jeremy and Zach Gossett, Allen Chickering and more. The average car count through six Southern Series events held thus far is 53 cars per event. I would expect close to that for Clinton.
The Wild West Speedway is located 2.6 miles south of I-40 (Exit 66) on US 183, then 1.0 mile east on County Road 7300. For more information, call 580-323-3993 or visit www.wildwestspeedway.com online.

The whole USMTS weekend -- Clinton (on Friday anyway), Amarillo and Lubbock -- should be west of all the rain & thunderstorms. I think from OKC and DFW and points EAST, may not be so hot though.
If it's still predicted like that Friday morning, I may be headed to Clinton because we're likely to rainout in Louisiana.

Yep, Thursday nights practice at Clinton may suffer but like Hook said, West of I-35 look clean and blue all points west. We saw just a sample of those driver expected all at once during years past in the $20,000 to win Sooner Roundup and stuff of that nature. But now you can be assured that the best modfiied drivers in the nation will be on the high banks of Wild West Speedway in Clinton. Not to mention some of the states best southern sport mod drivers as well.
Since your half way there, may as well make the trip on over to Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo. If you have never been then you are missing out on one of the best looking racing facilities that is never talked about. The place is packed when I am there and between the racing fans and the beer drinkers (as Gene Weaver says, ain't nothing else to do in Amarillo but drink and have a good time) it makes for an exciting time.
"Rocket" Rodney Sanders dialed in his modified this past Saturday night with a feature victory in the weekly season opener for the track. It is a must and you won't be disappointed in car count on that Saturday night in Amarillo.
Never been to Lubbock, unless it is the same big track where ASCS once held a show back in the late 90's. But Weaver assures me that Lubbock is a racey track and should be fun. Such a shame I have to work at 4:15 AM that Monday morning.

Lubbock is my old stomping grounds, being from south eastern New Mexico. It should be a great show and I have talked to some of my friends back home and SE New Mexico will be represented pretty well to go along with all the great Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Amarillo drivers that will be there. There shouldn't be any shortage on Mods this Sunday and it should be exciting! Thriller and I will be making the trip, hope to see you all there!
I know the ASCS held some shows at the little track in Lubbock (Lady Luck Speedway), but I don't know about Lubbock Motor Speedway. If it was a big track you went to Mr. Smith it was probably LMS, that place is pretty big. Lady Luck is fairly small.
Can I change my name to ModifiedFanRob?

You mentioned Lubbock Motor Speedway, I do believe that was the track I visited. In fact, my wife and I went on our anniversary just so I could watch ASCS there.
Thanks for the info and I am sure you two will have fun.....

What are the entry fees going to be for the sportmods and are we going to have to buy a IMCA license since it is at Clinton?

No you don't have to buy a license to race the sport mods Friday night at Clinton. Not sure on any entry fee, somebody will find out and post it here asap for you and others.

No entry fee, just a pit pass and it will be draw and redraw, no passing points. This is confirmed.

Thank you. I am looking forward to the race, but mainly to watch the USMTS boys mix it up.
