don't get me wrong here, but it seems like this board has become more of a PR site than a place where fans can come and talk racing. now i am not knocking the PR stuff, because we all know that word needs to be gotten out, and the various PR guys do a great job for their clients. i expect to see the board fill up after races with PR stuff and right before races as well, but where has the inter action between the fans gone? seems it has gotten less and less. there used to be a lot more conversation going on. what are the fans out there thinking of the racing they are seeing and the tracks they are going to? what do they have to say about things? anything? i know it has not fallen to zero, but it has sure dropped off. look down the list of posts and you will see row after row of PR posts, with no fan comments at all on them. you would think that even if people out there didn't start a conversation, they might at least have something to say about something they see posted. heck even the bickering was better than nothing.

Well Racin Buddy, I see by your header that you joined this board almost 2 years ago, don't know if you have been here longer under another handle or not. But... 14 years ago, we (this board and it's members) were the bomb!

You know, I was going to type up this long-assed diatribe about what has happened here over the years and why things are what they are but it would really only be a commentary on society so nevermind.

Sorry for this post, but those here who know... well, they know.

Miss you MSPN, Jill, NARC14Fan, Studeedoo, CresentWench, Yzman, SCPhoto, John, Sandy64, et. al........

On one hand, you're right. But then again, you almost can't blame people for not posting their opinions on how a race went, or what the condition of the track was like. 'Cause when they do, 99.44/100% of the time they get blasted for stating their opinion. At times, it seems that a LOT of the people on here, not all, only post if they can blast someone. So, it's just less headache to keep your opinion to yourself. Now, my turn to get bashed for stating my opinion.

You may be right fordfan. I recall one occasion when I questioned the name of a driver (that was intentionally spelled wrong) in the results of a race and received several posts blasting me for asking the question. The driver was Andy Forsberg. And the original poster was Tim Kaeding's mother -who for someone reason had spelled his name wrong - though I think I know why now. It wasn't even an opinion, but a question. So I can understand what you mean.

I enjoy this board very much, but I think the original poster (racin buddy) is right. Not much happens here anymore.

Skipper's board is now a first choice of mine when it comes to Northern California and I think they are working very hard to make the board fan friendly as well as sponsorship and race team friendly. It seems to be working as I can get all race results there.

Topwing I would really like to hear any of your comments as to the history here.

Thats rich, Skippers board being fan friendly. He's the douchebag that ruined this board for a lot of the people who started it.

Steve has hit one of the three or four nails on the head with his reference to another board.

And with that, this subject is dead to me.

Miss you too Moose, Curtis, AL and Marylin.

It used to be a very lively board here, and  I used to check in every day to learn about Teapots,Silva's Linguicia, washing cars from above,Cabo Wabo, BBQ's blowing up,and even planting trees in memory of others. And back then I had never even been to a race in California, but it sounded to me like the California Hosers had the most fun.

I still check in from time to time, but not everyday like I used to............

I get a lot of results on skippers board, and they seem to be doing a lot to help people out...

I'm here lurking...and I am guilty of not posting very much.

Lame excuses:

1) life. Between kids sports and "stuff"...I just don't get to as many races any more

2) and this one is really lame, but true: for 2 years I had a Palm 750 and the browser would let me read, but not post. I was traveling all the time, so my available time to post was near zero. I am iPhone guy now so that problem is solved!

I miss hanging with all of you. Miss the pre-race BBQs. I miss reading the discussions. Even the heated ones were fun. Nobody was ever really mad. Just chatting

talk soon! Larry

thanks for coming out of hiding people. lol. it just seemed to me that there has been a lose of interest and excitement. i know at times it has got pretty rough in here, but we are all racers and we get pretty rough no matter what! at least you knew what people really thought! everyone's screwed up opinions are just as interesting as my screwed up opinions! and when did we start giving a crap what anyone else thinks? lol. or get so thin skinned that we cared what they said to us in return? is it just what might go on in here that has slowed things down, or what is (or isn't) happening at the track?

JMO,

other than complaints about rainouts, and the lack of racing at Chico, what has there been to discuss? It seems that the lack of races(OK, maybe a race or two at Marysville and Placerville, and a couple of GSC shows with 22 cars) is causing some of the diminished traffic...Yeah, I know, what about Ocean.....Last fall, this board was alive with discussion about TK's run at the Trophy Cup.

And 14 years ago, the internet and message boards were a novelty, a new way of communicating. A lot of folks were into things BECAUSE they were new. Cell phones were expensive then, and computers weren't exactly cheap then, either. Folks used their new toys/devices to justify the expense of having them. Now with texting, IM, and everything else, message board forums are almost passe for communicating. People still check them for race results, and they're a good place to announce things via press releases.

And once racing really starts in earnest and it quits raining(IMO, 8 cars at Anderson is not a race, but an exhibition) , this board will liven up a bit....

Again, this is just my opinion....

Chuck.....

Interesting question, here's my $0.02

I've never been a frequent enough poster here to be impacted by the bashing one way or the other. What's led me to lurk more and contribute less has more to do with the spike in PR postings over the past couple of years- its really clogged up the board IMO. While I appreciate the quality of the writing and the information provided most of it really doesn't interest me. I don't really care why someone finished 5th in the B, or what have you.

I am more interested in updates from the track, race result write-ups, bench racing, and frankly just the BS banter between fans. I understand that the PR stuff is is important for many folks, but, its also what keeps me away.

My contribution to the suggestion box is- create a separate forum for the PR so folks can "opt-in" to view it.

hey guess what mike, there IS a forum for PR. it is called "press release". lol. and you are correct, it should be used for what it is designed for more often. i have nothing against the PR guys wanting to get their word out either, but agree that this board gets flooded at times to the point with PR that it pushes everything else off the page. while it may be true that there has been rain and cancellations of races, there has also been less comment on the races that have been run. chico is not the only track in the area, and while it has gone dark, other tracks have raced, so i too wonder about the reason for lack of participation on the board.

I am still here. Good to hear from Top Wing and Florio. It has been ages since I have seen either of you. I lurk mostly because this board will not let me log in. I have to go to the main HH board and log in there (if I am already logged in there, I have to log out and then back in) and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and switch to the NCSC board every session. This is a pain in the butt instead of having to log back in every 2 weeks or so. I know that I am not the only one with this problem, so that may be why some of the old regulars have disappeared.

maybe the reason this board won't let you log in is because it knows you too well! lol. just a thought. Smile
