Fenders are like vacuums... they both suck.

"The Wolf" Is one of the largest reasons I drive today, knee high to a grasshopper , I watched him drive a handfull of times, I immediately knew what I wanted to do with my life and where my interests were, I admire his talent, on the track ,and behind the wrenches. He is still the greatest in my book , great artical , Congrats WOLF!!

A few years ago some friends and I had the pleasure of meeting Doug while attending the races at Huset's Speedway. He spoke with us at length and then invited us to drop by his shop the following day, which we did. Upon our arrival he again took time from his schedule to speak with us and give us a brief tour of the operation. This may not seem like such a big deal but the way in which he did it made quite an impression on us. His manner was very unassuming, almost humble, yet it quickly became apparent that he is the kind of individual you don't encounter very often. Congratulations Doug on your South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame induction - no one could be more deserving.

Here's the Dick Morris-owned car that Doug drove in his first appearance at Knoxville. I bought it from Morris a few weeks later.

Spending 15 minutes under a canopy with Doug during a Nationals rain delay was as much fun and laughs as I've ever had at that race. His self depricating sense of humor and general small talk that day was a hoot, we were laughing hard and the rain seemed to disappear during those few minutes. Catching up with him at a wedding a few years later was just as entertaining, I only regret I never got to see him Live, in his prime. Time spent with him is akin to doing the same with Van May, those guys could make anyone a fan of this sport and I worry that there may not be similiar replacements out there today, sure hope I'm wrong. Take It Easy....

Doug Wolfgang & Brad Doty are the 2 drivers that lured me into Sprint Car racing. Both were the hardest racers & the nicest guys you could ever meet. The day Wolfie got injured at Lakeside was a very dark day for all race fans. Long live the "Wolf". Still bums me out to this day.

My all time favorite driver, sadly apart from AJ Foyt, the only great driver from the last 25 years I've never seen in Australia.

Wolfie was the man, nobody has ever replaced him as my true favorite. He was my first racing hero. When I was growing up in Fairfield, Pa he was driving the Weikert car. I went to school with his kid's and had the chance to go to the shop and see and talk to the Wolf many times. Not only a great great driver, but a very funny guy. Congrats Wolfie!!

I lived next door to Wolfie when he was working for Maxwell in Lincoln NE. I spent a lot of time at the shop and at Doug and Gerie's house listening to all of his racing stories...this was before he ever won a feature at K'ville! Before I ever started racing, I asked Wolfie..."what is the number one thing I need to know to race sprint cars". His reply..............
STAND ON THE GAS!!!
What a great honor for the Wolfgang's ...CONGRATULATIONS!!

Good article. Loved watching him race. Always remember him doing most of his own work on his cars. Seemed like everytime you'd walk through the pits he would be changin' the bars again. Damn he was fast. Congrats Wolfie!
