RESCHEDULED ELDORA USAC SPRINT RACE REDUCED TO $10, STEWART TO RACE MODIFIED

ROSSBURG, OH (April 19) – As promised in his open letter to the Eldora Speedway race fans, track owner, and two-time NASCAR Cup champion, Tony Stewart has rescheduled the postponed opening night leg of the Coca-Cola Spring Classic for Wednesday night, May 12, 2010. And he has done so in a big way.

As was to have been the case on April 2, when the event was postponed, the non-winged USAC (United States Auto Club) Sprint cars and the UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds will be in action for the mid-week doubleheader.

On that night, the adult general admission price will be $10; a price not seen for USAC Sprint racing since the 1960 era. Additionally, children 15 and under will be admitted free of charge; to make this event, also dubbed as the Jud Larson/Don Branson Memorial, the best bargain of the year at the one-half mile clay oval.

The Modified portion will see increased interest, as Stewart will be bringing his Modified to compete against the Eldora regulars. Since his purchase of the facility, Stewart has put on his helmet to race Sprint Cars and Late Models, but this will mark his debut in the Modified ranks.

In a move of appreciation to the Eldora fans, Stewart will arrive early that Wednesday and host a pre-race autograph session. Open to the first 500 patrons receiving an arm band, Tony will be on hand to sign one item per person, before moving down to the pit area to change hats from a promoter to a racer.

The Coca-Cola Spring Classic will usher in the 49th consecutive season of USAC racing at Eldora Speedway

Complete event information and time schedules may be viewed on the track’s website www.eldoraspeedway.com or be obtained by calling the track office at (937) 338-3815.

At first glance I misunderstood ... thought the purse was being reduced to $10 .... wink

Nice to see them throw the fans a bone ... hopefully the track won't be dry as one ... again ...

This is a real race car driver, showing respect for the fans and the sport that gave him the chance to do all that he has been able to do.

I wonder if all the people who complained about the track and how tony should do something will compliment him on this move? The guy is a class act and obviously cares about his fans....

I think most of the people that complained about the track weren't there in the first place. That or every single person that attended is a message board poster.

My first reaction to the $10 tickets and autographs... you know people will still complain. Given the choice between saying something positive or something negative... you know what most will choose. It's tough to compliment someone anymore apparently.

KUDOS to Eldora and Mr. Stewart. People that complain about him need to think about 2 big moments in his maturation as a racer and track owner this week. How did he act when Gordon came running up to him at TMS yesterday? He put his hand on Jeff's shoulder and told him it was ok. How did he try to make it up to the fans for the USAC debacle? $10 tickets and 500 autographs... before he straps in and races. Does he really need to race at Eldora that night? He's a Cup driver, after all.

That's doing the right thing, folks.

I was there the night the track did not come in.. I was disappointed but never considered not going back... Whether you like Stewart or not he is the best thing that could have happened to Eldora after the Baltes' retired... He has modernized the facility and I believe he will fix the problems with the track surface...I always wonder what would have happened to the place had not Stewart bought it... I could not care less about NASCAR and I am not really a Stewart fan but being honest he is the best owner Eldora could have!!!!!!!!!!

No thanks! Nice gesture by Tony to try to get a crowd to show up for a USUCK race though.

I read at "another site" where Smoke is offering the winner of the Indy 500 a chance to run a car at Eldora! Smile

SPEEDWAY, Ind. – The winner of the 2010 Indianapolis 500 will receive a frosty bottle of milk in victory lane, a check for more than $3 million, the keys to the Chevrolet Camaro SS Pace Car and the opportunity to race a dirt Late Model against the likes of Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and others at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

Stewart, a two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion and five-time Indianapolis 500 starter, is offering the winner of the 2010 Indianapolis 500 a car to drive in the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream June 9 at Eldora Speedway.

“The winner of the 2010 Indianapolis 500 has a standing offer to compete in this year’s Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway,” said Stewart, who has three top-10 finishes in five Indianapolis 500 starts. “We’ll have a car waiting for him or her, and we’d love to have whoever puts their name on the Borg-Warner Trophy at Indianapolis come about two hours east and compete in a dirt Late Model to raise money for charity.”

The dirt Late Model stock car that will be waiting for the winner of the 2010 Indianapolis 500 will feature imagery from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Centennial Era campaign, which prominently features the famous wing and wheel logo of the venerable racing institutition.

I hope Tony can drive a modified a little better than he drove his cup car at Texas.

If not there is going to be some pissed off modified drivers.

......The funny thing is that no if you challenged tony to a race in a car of your choice...he would school your ass...no matter what the car...track...or anything....So if I was you I would just keep my mouth shut...he has a talent that not many people in thisworld have otherwise everyone would be racing for money...tony is good in any car he gets into and he would work your hippocrit ass in anything, anytime, anywhere no matter what...so I would keep my mouth shut if i was you....You should probably just shut up and dont bother humiliating yourself by posting anything else you idiot...People like you disgust me...get a life...loser

I was at this race in April and can say that this move by Tony is what I expected from him.

He knows who pays the bills at Eldora, the fans, and I will return to the track to show my appreciation...and give it another chance to improve on the horrific conditions it has had in the not too distant past..unfortunately I cannot make this race...AS IT IS ON A WEDNESDAY!!!!!

I wondered myself how they were going to reschedule it. If you look at Eldora's remaining 2010 schedule, plus USAC remaining schedule for the sprints - there weren't many weekends where they could have rescheduled it. Then, throw in the USAC midget and silver crown schedules, as USAC won't schedule against those either since many drivers run multiple divisions - then you really have your available weekend dates dwindled to pretty much zero.

Kudos for putting something at all back on the schedule, even if it is on week night.

My post is my observation of one race and my prediction of another.

Your post is mostly a personal attack on me and shows your lack of class.

Sorry if I offended you.

Let me guess, another :expert: whose entire sprint car experience started somewhere in the 90's and so who believes that dust, taking rubber, and follow the leader winged slot car racing is synonomous with sprint car racing.

A race on a Wednesday night - sorry I work

Tony sign's autograph's - sorry, I don't care

Tony's racing a modified - again, I don't care, I'm not star struck - for all I care Tony Smith could be in the car if it's good racing

Many of you seem excited about this, I give Tony credit and appreciate his efforts.

I was excited to watch a USAC race on a beautiful Friday evening and saw track prep for over 4 hours and the track was still no where close, I mean not even close to being ready, yet I believe if the Prelude was racing on this night the track would have been ready.

I'll find a sprint car race later this year and I expect the track will be ready but I still see a decline in Sprint Car racing at Eldora.
