Racing Resumes Saturday with ASCS Sprints
Light rain started falling around noon last Saturday forcing promoter Jackie Green to cancel the racing program.
But racing will resume next Saturday with the ASCS American Bank Sooner Region Sprints making their first stop of the season at Creek County Speedway. Modified, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Pure stocks will also be racing in regular point action. Front wheel drive and CCS 2-barrell sprints will have the night off.

Employee Meeting Thursday
Jackie Green has scheduled an employee meeting to be held at the track on Thursday at 6:30.

Saturday Schedule
Gates Open 3:00
Pack Track 4:00
Hot Laps 4:30
Driver's Meeting 5:45
Open Ceremony 6:00
1st Heat 6:15
All cars MUST go through the Main Pit Gate to get to the over flow parking. There is now a Driver's Pit window only.

Sprint Cars must run with American Racer RR Tire.

man if you were there for their opener you wouldn't be enthusiastic....

unorganized chaos is one thing - it happens. But the track looked terrible. both straightaways were a complete drag race to see who could get to the bottom of the turn first. granted it was dry - but I'm not sold that it being tacky would make it any different, not a expert on it, but did get a heavy impression that there wasn't enough banking in the turns.

but oh well - I hope its a good race.

don't worry Mike......

the show won't be over before midnight you can COUNT ON THAT.

maybe it will be better than their first show and they can only start 1 hour late instead of 2 and a half.

It's too bad that promoters find it necessary to bring in so many support classes to increase the back gate receipts. MOST of the paying fans have come to see the Sprint cars (or whatever special class is running) at these special events and could care less about the other 2, 3 or 4 classes. The additional classes affect the track conditions, over crowd the pit area, creating a safety issue and usually extend the program beyond a reasonable time line. And all of this pisses off the sprint car fan that has paid the additional special event price, to see sprint cars and not two additional hours of delays. Many don't even attend when they hear that there is more than one fill in class.

I understand that ASCS only sanctions the cars they bring and has no say as to how the Promoter runs his business, but it is my opinion that they should get involved and include in their contracts that only one additional class of cars can run and limit the count to 2 heat races and 1 feature, taking the top twenty in points of that class. If the ASCS can't or won't do this, then the promoter should consider it. It may affect his bottom line for the short term but will increase it over time.

This suggestion is not meant to be a bashing of the other classes, they are necessary and needed and have their fan following to support them, however their fans generally don't include the fans of sprint cars.

I most likely will be there Saturday night, for the Sooner Region Sprint Cars, ONLY! Maybe I'll bring a good book to read while the other classes take up time.

I know what you mean cheroger. I too only watch the sprints but it's all about money. The promoter needs to make some. Just like I do when I buy parts for resale. You can't just give good products away. You have to make some extra on em. That being said, it would be nice to see only sprints run. Maybe someone with deep pockets could make that happen. MAYBE is probably more like not likely. See ya there man.

A lesson should be taken from our past racing history....The most successful years in the Tulsa area dirt track racing history took place from around the mid 60's to the early eighty's. This was accomplished by running only 2 classes of cars with car counts of over 100 commonplace. They started on time, had a scheduled intermission and generally finished by 10:30. There was a club (a drivers union) and because we ran for a percentage of the gate, we all promoted and assisted the promoter for the good of everyone, including the fans that sometimes numbered over 10,000. We now have 5 or 6 classes of cars, no true owner/driver associations and promoters and racers that only promote themselves and don't seem to care that the races start on time or finish before midnight.

Creek County Speedway has an opportunity to improve local racing. Far too many factors will keep racing from ever being the entertainment of choice as it once was. However, by just following the footsteps of those that tried before, is the wrong approach.
