USAC WESTERN SPRINT CARS EMBARK ON 2010 SEASON THIS WEEKEND
17 race slate on tap for one of the fastest series on
asphalt
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (April 15, 2010) – The USAC Amsoil
Western Sprint Car Series will kick off its 2010 campaign this Saturday at All
American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. with a 50 lap feature scheduled for the
one-third mile asphalt oval just outside Sacramento.
The asphalt wingless warriors of the predominately 360 cubic
inch powered series will be touring to three different states over a 17 race
calendar this year. New life has been breathed into the series with the
introduction of the affordable Schwanke-spec engine option and also the inclusion
of national 410 cubic inch powerplants as well.
Among the highlights on the schedule is four shows each at
All American Speedway and Orange
Show Speedway, located in San Bernadino, Calif.
Race fans in the Rocky Mountains will
get to see the series at Rocky Mountain Raceways on May 31 and July 24. These
events are the traditional combination races with the USAC Rocky Mountain
Series.
Back on the tour for 2010 is a trip up to Meridian Speedway
in Idaho on September 18 and 19.
The challenging flat quarter-mile asphalt oval is back on the schedule after a
two year absence.
Two drivers who will not be running for a championship this
year are the Swanson brothers Kody and Tanner. Tanner Swanson was the champion
the last two seasons, with older brother Kody breaking through in 2005 for the
crown.
Some observers might be inclined to put five-time USAC
champion Tony Hunt as the favorite aboard his Metal Works-sponsored,
Schwanke-spec engine powered #56. But several other racers should challenge.
17 year-old Luis Ramos of Clovis,
Calif. will be driving the 2007
championship Kaplan-Genoso Racing. Former USAC Western Midget champion Scott
Pierovich of Alamo, Calif.
will be at the controls of the potent Ken Peirson-owned #14.
Fresno school
teacher Audra Sasselli will compete on Saturday at Roseville
in her family-owned black and orange #77 mount. Shauna Hogg of Citrus
Heights, Calif. will be in
attendance on Saturday driving her Backpack Charlie #5.
Tony Hunt Motorsports will also debut its new driver development
program with the “Speed Swede” Marten Hansen driving the 56jr on Saturday.
Hansen is the first of several young promising rookies who will drive this car
throughout the year.
Other entries expected on Saturday include Santa
Rosa’s Brian McClish, Rohnert
Park’s JoJo Helberg, Alan Hardy of San
Mateo, Calif., and Marvin
Mitchell of Tracy, Calif.
The All American Speedway is located on the Placer County
Fairgrounds in Roseville, Calif.
A practice will be held Friday night from 3:30
– 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. with racing to start at 6.
