Presented by Bad Boy Mowers!
Last tune-up race is THIS SUNDAY the 30th and pays $1000 to win and $100 to start on a $30 pit pass and NO entry fee.
The DMM is a ONE-day show at Ark-La-Tex Speedway -- not far from southeast Oklahoma and nearly on the very spot where Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana all meet -- with NO entry fee and pays $250 to start the A-main. There is a practice and NON-mandatory TIME TRIALS on Friday the 4th. Full paydown and other details posted below. Check it out....

My bad here. There is no Modified rules link anymore at www.ArkLaTexSpeedway.net . We use USMTS rules with both tires -- the AR KK704s and IMCA Hoosier G60s -- being legal.

Here's an interesting quote for you... Quote:
A 1 day show that pays 5000 to win and 250 to start with no entry fee; WOW!!! Everybody talks about the big money shows for modified being a thing of the past, well heres you're chance to go get some of that cheddar! I've raced at this track and it is a very nice facility and racing surface, 14 mile with quite a bit of bank! Super fun to race on but the main reason I go is to support the Murphrey family in this wonderful memorial race they have in memory of Doug Murphrey, a great father, husband, a friend, and a fellow modified racer. You will not meet a nicer family surrounded by positive energy!!! So come down, play in the dirt, come git some.
NOTE--- Vivian is only 4hrs. and 45min from Batesville and I know alot of racers are driving that mileage this weekend for 1000 so lets keep theses big money races and support our modified division because if we don't, were all gonna be driving crates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Peyton Taylor |

If want an early 'test and tune' for the Doug Murphrey, Ark-La-Tex Speedway is paying $600 to win in the Modifieds this week and $100 just to start! $25 pit pass and no entry fee of course...

One month to go!
That last scheduled Modified tune-up for the DMM rained out on May 1st. Mods are not racing on the 8th as Sprint Cars will take the stage in Vivian on that Saturday. We will try again on May 15th though.
USMTS-type Open Wheel Modifieds will race for $600 to win and $100 to start on the 15th. Regular $25 pit pass on the 15th and just like the $5000 to win/$250 to start Doug Murphrey Memorial, there is NO entry fee.

Excellent racing last night 5/15 at Ark-La-Tex -- especially in the Modifieds!
31 Modifieds checked in for the $600 to win, $100 to start, tune-up for Memorial Day Sunday (5/30 - $1000 to win), Doug Murphrey Memorial (6/5 - $5000 to win) and USMTS (6/13 - $2000 to win).
Michael Knighten, Geoff Lary and Jonathan Maxwell won the heat races while BJ Robinson and Billy Robinson won the B mains.
The 20-lap feature event went caution free with cars running the bottom, the middle and the top the entire race. The leaders had just started lapping cars when the checkers fell.
Knighten took the lead at the start with Jon 'Catman' Mitchell moving up from 4th starting spot to second. Maxwell and Lary fell back and mixed it up with John Riley, Lee Patton, Wes and Jason Armstrong and 9th starting Chris Henigan. Knighten ran the top groove while Mitchell dove for the bottom and slowly reeled in the #96. Henigan also worked the very bottom of the track and battled his way through 3-wides in the middle stages of the race to finally emerge in third. Mitchell caught Knighten and with about 5 to go and with Henigan gaining, it was coming down to a 3-car battle at the end. 4 to go and 3 to go so Mitchell and Knighten cross in a near dead heat. Then, as Michael tried to protect the low line, Henigan went around the outside of both cars with 2 to go and went on to win!
Unofficially, I have Knighten, Mitchell, Riley and Jason Armstrong as the top five behind Henigan. Wes Armstrong, Patton, Lary, perhaps Patrick Linn (from 18th), BJ and then Richard Haynes maybe, approximately?? (Official results will be posted later.)

OK now, tomorrow's (Sunday, May 30th) is your last tune-up race before the $5000. $1000 to win and $100 to start with no entry fee of course. If you're not going to charge an entry fee for $5000 to win, you sure ain't going to charge one for $1000....

This may be the best $15 you spend this week!
If you plan on racing at the Doug Murphrey Memorial race THIS SATURDAY in Vivian, Louisiana especially in a Modified (and why not?? -- it pays $5000 to win, $250 to start on just a $30 pit pass and NO entry fee!) then THIS FRIDAY's practice may be the best $15 you spend this week.
The grandstand will be closed on Friday but kids 10 and under are admitted free in the pits with an accompanying adult of course. If you have not raced much at Ark-La-Tex in the past or perhaps never at all, then the practice laps may prove invaluable.
There are NON-mandatory time trials on Friday night that do have some value as well. There are 22 spots up for grabs to ANY modified that pulls through the gate on Saturday. Doesn't matter if they were there on Friday or not. They will draw for heat race starting positions and then run a set of SUPR-style, USMTS-style passing point heat races and then have qualifying races (or B-mains) after that to get the first ten rows of the $5000 to win/$250 to start A-main filled. Row 11 will be the top two times who do NOT get one of those first 20 spots. You could time in anywhere in the top 22 on Friday and possibly have as shot at row 11 on Saturday if you need it.
Row 12 will be DRAWN from the non-qualifiers after all the qualifying is done on Saturday. All you have to do to get in that row is be there Saturday and be the lucky sort! That's $250 just for that and you get to race for $5000 too. The 25th and final starting spot is interesting. Yes, as a last resort, you can BUY your way in! It will be auctioned off. How much is a starting spot worth for a $250 to start, $5000 to win, $16,000 total purse Modified race? Guess we're going to find out...
But the PRACTICE.... the practice on Friday is where your $15 and extra day on the road can really prove valuable in the long run.
Now some of you may be thinking about 'time' on Saturday night. As in, 'How much time is all of that going to take?' Trust me, so is Gene Boyter. We've run long with this show once or twice in the past. This is our first year to race it at Ark-La-Tex. If you've raced with Gene before then you know. If you haven't, think Mooney Starr or Joe Clay. Gene moves a show along and there is a plan with two goals:
Ensure a racy track for that A-main and keep this show moving!
ONLY Modifieds & Limited Modifieds will run heats and qualifying races. The other classes - ProMods & Factory Stocks -- will draw into feature events only. Pro-Mods are a brand new class. When we started in March, we had 4 cars. Last week, we were up to 14 -- the most yet. Rules are available at www.arklatexspeedway.net if you're interested. Some of the B-mods, E-Mods and older 3-link IMCA cars would fit right into that topless class! They run on $25 used asphalt pull-offs (8 inch wheels). Tires available at the track.
We average about 40 Factory Stocks every week though. With $5 more on a pit pass and now that they aren't running a heat race, we may not have that many Saturday night. They will all draw directly into an A-main. Normally they get $100 to win, $40 to start the A and $20 to start the B. Saturday they get $200 to win with the $40 to start but ALL Factory Stocks will get an A-main -- just no heat race. If necessary, they will have 2 A-mains so we ain't wrecking 35 cars in one A. Same pay, same points. This will save time and help keep the track. There are several area tracks closing for this show. I doubt we'll need a 3rd A-main now but if we do, same deal. Same pay, same points.
There is another class -- Beginner-Cruisers (same as a Factory Stock) -- but they will have a feature only and will run last. They don't really factor in to the time situation. Most Mods will be loaded up and rolling out -- 25 of them with their share of that $16,250 -- by the time the Beginners get on the track.
When we finish qualifying the mods for the first ten rows, there will be an intermission break. This is when will draw the two spots and have the auction. We have a grass area between the grandstands and the front stretch fence. We can and may use that area while they grade and work the track if needed. We would like to do out-of-car introduction on the track but if time is factor, we may do driver intros with just the driver in that grass area too while the track is being worked. We'd introduce them and then there might be a race or two before their race but that way they just hit the track strapped in and rolling like any other feature at that point.
Contingency plans are in place! Should be a great night. I'd make it a weekend if I were you and get to Friday's practice!

Race Receivers required! Even for Friday's time trials. They do sell them at the track if they have any.

Just what the doctor ordered!
The track just got hit by a good rain and it couldn't have come at a better time. With tomorrow calling for 94 and less than 20% chance of rain and Saturday calling for 97 and no rain at all, we needed this one!
This is going to set the table for a great show on Saturday!!! The track will be fast and racy and all the dirt and dust in the infield, pits and parking lots is now settled down by this rain. Good timing!
