I am soooooo glad I had to go cover the NCRA sprint deal up in Wichita or I would have been there - and probably left. Haven't seen the WoO sprints and late models in forever would have been the only reason as to why or would have bypassed that to go to Little Rock for ASCS.
All is good.

To All,
I am amazed actually at the car counts that were split between NCRA, ASCS NAT. & WOO, If I understand right you had about 28/30 cars at 81 SPDY, they had I believe around 55 cars at LR ASCS NAT but still were able to get 26 cars at Pacola, shows me that there are more cars in this area then what alot of people allow for and this doesn't include any cars that ran Meeker or Creek and I'm fairly sure there may have been a couple at Creek that have ASCS & 410 motors. While I don't agree with WOO running against ASCS NAT at LR, the show was very good right up until the 25th lap of the A-FEA, at that point it went south fast, there was an obvious lack of track prep early on as the track was packed extremely hard and didn't take water very well, however it was not rough and qualifing, heat race action, dash's and B-FEA were all competitive races with lots of FAST action, and tire wear wasn't to bad up until the B-FEA, after the B-FEA teams had plenty of time to adjust there tire and chassis set-up's and upon the start of the A-FEA the racing was good with Dollansky was setting a blistering pace however all cars were running a blistering pace as the #7 didn't start lapping cars until around the 24th/25th lap there was a yellow flag about this same time and you could tell that some cars were in trouble rubber wise, Saldana had a flat LF from what I don't know but he pitted under the yellow and got a new LF, about this time Meyer's LF went flat but he restarted with the flat LF, with the new double file restarts there was some contact on the restart which brought out another yellow at which time Meyer's went to the work area and got at least a new LF and maybe more then that, about this time Haud lost a RR tire causing another yellow and from there the race got out of control and turned to shit, there were plenty of more yellows for flat tires but no reds the reds were for fuel stops and it took 2 I repeat 2 fuel stops to run the last 5 laps, there may have been an issue with scoring as after the first yellow it seemed like it took for ever to reline up, which caused unnessaceary laps run under the caution, on the first fuel stop red it was no doubt that there were cars, half the field that couldn't make 2 more laps and would be doubtful if any car could finish with out losing tires, officals should have steped up at that point and let teams change Rear tires or should have went to a single file start to prevent crashing, which happened in the last 5 laps as cars blew out RR's on restarts, I'm pretty sure only 3/4 cars finished on the tires they started on. Sanctioning bodies should #1 make the damn cars carry enough fuel to finish a race, if they have to have a little bigger tank so be it, next if it appears that the track is going to be hard on tires then they need to adjust laps, if we had only been running 30 laps it would have been over about an hour earlier, next use some common sense and if your on a red and see the condition of the tires let the teams put new tires on, if they would have let them put just RR's on at the first red the race would have been over 45 minutes earlier. What was a good event was allowed to turn to crap because of nobody standing up and making descions at a critical time. It was the most embarassing race I've been involved with in 37 years of racing.

Earlier this afternoon the WoO still hadn't posted the complete results from the feature as they were still under review. Amazing.

I was there. It was a bad deal. But let's not get carried away. It's still the WoO and that's still the cream of the crop. It was a difficult situation, and had I known it was going to be like that, I probably would have skipped it over arriving back home at 4 a.m. That said, it would never stop me from going to see them again, and I am always willing to make the drive to see racing of that quality and speed. Until the A, we had seen some outstanding racing from the Outlaws. I've been to dozens of their races and have never seen anything remotely close to what happened in that A. I agree with most of what DGM said. Even under the conditions, the thing could have been at least partially remedied.

I have seen allot of Saturday nights when the track at Tri-State was a piece of crap. I wonder if they ever dug the asphalt up that's been under the dirt since the 80s? Or if they are still using river dirt from the Poteau river just north of the back straight? Hmmm sounds like yes it is and yes they are, well I guess some things just never change.
Glad we stayed at home in OKC and did not make the trip (guess we knew better LOL)... The fans in that area love it when sprint cars come to town. It's pretty bad when the OCRS can run 2 barrel sprints at Tri-State and put on a hell of allot better show and please the fans kind of sad huh?
So it all can't be blamed on the WoO's, it is a fast track but in need of some good clay and maybe the asphalt removed. I haven't been back since 2000. But after hearing all of the bad comments over the last few years and from friends that still race at Tri-State, like I said some things never change...
Way to go !!!!!

Randy, you cant blame any of the officials from Tri-State for the condition of the track. I also got home a 3:00 am and was not pleased with the track or the calls that were made. According to Tr-State officials the only thing they can be blamed for is a poor tasting hamburger,if that even happend, because the WOO prepared the track, and ran the show. And YES there is new CLAY on the track but WOO officials opted to pack it in hard and not water it for a fast smooth race track. I knew they were in trouble when it kicked up dust in the hot laps. Secondly, the Outlaws have a choice of four tire compounds, 100,200,300,400. Most chose to run a 200, next to the softest in a 35 lap feature after it started taking rubber in the B main. So please dont knock the Tri State officials unless you got a crapy hamberger because that is all they were involved in was the concession stands.

That the World of Outlaws prepared the track themselves explains a lot, and by a lot, I mean the whole deal

Thanks for setting me straight on that one about the WoO officials running the whole show including track prep. Back when I was an official and the flagman for 18 years at Tri-State, it just sounded like it the same ole' song and dance. Their famous last words were always, Damn Sprint Cars and Late Models always want the track a certain way. But it's always been a dry hard and dusty track.
I have heard there have been a whole lot of changes at Tri-State. Thats good to hear maybe I will go visit again when the OCRS show up this year.

R/O,
Just a slight correction to your comments on compound, ASP WRG request's there are only 3 of the 5 GDYR compounds avaliable to the teams on the RR, those being 100,200 & 300 of the cars starting the A-FEA all but 3 had 200's on & those 3 ran 300's. 400 is not currently an approved RR compound. 100 & 200 are the only approved LR compounds, about 1/3rd of the field ran 200 LR's the rest were on 100 LR's which were tough enough to make it the distance. Oh and 2 of the 3 cars on 300's were amoung the first to have RR flats.

They prepared the track (on the water truck, etc) or simply asked for a certain kind of track?

Just received a call from Bond, Tony Bond, with mudsligner
video and he said that the WoO found him through this website (guess
they frequent it as well) and contacted him and are wanting a copy of
the race from Saturday night as he was there filming.

I've been informed by a very reliable source, but I'm willing to be corrected, that WOO officials sent out the grader and bladed all the clay off the surface of the track, leaving a surface the harrow couldn't even touch. On the good side, it may have been sandpaper, but by jimini, it was smooth....and a lot slower than it might have been, which MAY have been part of the thinking. When it's really fast, that track could end a career if you got unlucky. A little like Belleville with straights.

Kenny, According to Tri-State officials, WOO brought in their own dirt man on friday
who graded and watered the track to their satisfaction. No other Tri-State empolyee worked the track.

A few years ago at the Spooker it was announced that Raymond Merrill turned a lap at 112 1/2 mph in a freight train race on a rubbered up track in a late model.I thought that was kind of fast but that's what was announced.
Shane Clanton set the offical lap time qualifing for the WoO LM race there a few years ago.Don't know what it was but would like to know.
