If Tony Stewart wanted to add NASCAR-style excitement to Eldora, I guess he did -- by adding the track problems that the Daytona 500 had. At least they were able to finish the race.
I waited all weekend to let the emotions subside before writing about the debacle at Eldora. It turns out it was still completely ridiculous. Here's what I wrote. The one thing I didn't mention is that despite all of this, I don't think it's as simple as equating "they spent all of this money on suites and billboards" with what happened - that's too reductive. You can have a world-class facility, build state-of-the-art additions to it and still have a great track - the two things aren't mutually exclusive. Saying that one caused the other lets Eldora's management off the hook for not doing basic stuff that any track should have been able to do.
Thoughts?

Tony has the money to do things first class, somebody on his crew dropped the ball and somebody should be held responsible. I would think Eldora or Tony would issue some kind of statement apologising to the fans and racers and figuring out a way to make things up to everyones satisfaction. Anytime you do dirt work over the winter you should start with a practice day to try the track out.

This issue isn't only isolated to certain parts of the country. I have said this many many times but It's way better to watch a great race from crappy stands than to be comfortable and have a piece of crap track or race..
I'm just sayin.........

I agree and just dont understand what the track workers were thinking. You can't just half ass track
prep and decide to cancel and expect nobody to notice. Hell, the Dunkins at Knoxville Raceway have
been working on the track multiple days a week for over 3 weeks now just getting it ready for
practice night. Earl cannot be happy about this one.

The easiest way to explain it, go look at a local farmers field right after he plants his crops. That is exactly what the track looked like after both sessions of hotlaps they tried. Now imagine a sprint car going through that field and how rough it would be, and the amount of dirt and dust being kicked straight up. The water they applied stayed right up top and peeled off as soon as the cars ran through it at speed.

Ouch!
Careful SprintExaminer, or you will find yourself watching Tony's races from Kevin Eckert's old perch outside of the gate.

Mac, we live in a world of the 24 hour news cycle...Our collective ADD as a society preclude us from giving a crap about this topic any more...

sprintexaminer,
1st - There is nothing, I mean nothing, like a good sprint car race at Eldora Speedway!!!
2nd - Friday's USAC show at Eldora was a disaster on so many levels, but only the result of the ongoing neglect to sprint car racing at Eldora Speedway.
3rd - The continued neglect of sprint car racing at Eldora is based in it's greed to chase money. It chases money off the NASCAR image, it chases money from Monster Trucks and Tractor Pulls. It does little to nothing to promote sprint car racing
4th - Realistically Eldora does not even belong on this thread, A SPRINT CAR THREAD, because it only features sprint cars in 6 of it's 19 events, now 5 of 19 after totally screwing up the USAC races last weekend. IS THERE ANY OTHER TRACK WHICH IS LESS INVOLVED WITH SPRINT CAR RACING, YET IS STILL PERCEIVED AS A SPRINT CAR TRACK. I AM NOT AWARE OF ANY IN THE USA.
5th - There is nothing, I mean nothing, like a good sprint car race at Eldora Speedway!!!
