Knoxville Raceway posted this statement on their Facebook:
"50 laps for the 50th Goodyear Knoxville Nationals presented by Lucas Oil! The votes are in and the poll has been tallied. Fifty laps is the clear winner with 62% of the total votes for the 50th Goodyear Knoxville Nationals presented by Lucas Oil. Thirty laps received 34% while forty came in a distant third with just 4% of the votes."
Personally, I have mixed feelings about this. I'm happy to see they are doing something special but at the same time, I HATE the fuel stop during the middle of the race. To me, that isn't sprint car racing at all. I just don't want Schatz winning again. Anybody but Schatz.
I'd rather be in Knoxville.

I bet they counted the votes the same way they count the fair board election. Take the votes in the back room and then come out and tell you how it came out. Some how, probably an act of God, but it always comes out the way they want it to. The online poll was just a front, they really don't give two $hits what the fans think.

Opp-fan, I will count you among the 38% who voted for 30 or 40...last time I looked in on the voting the votes for 50 were in the 70 percentile range...no need for conspiracy theories, the people want 50!
If this post isn't results, stories or something c
constructive, it isn't me!

instead of 50 how about two 25 lap features...invert after the first 25 and bonus to win both....pay good money to win the first to avoid sandbaggers!

Why not just run 50 laps.

I don't give a $hit who wins, but a pit stop is just ridiculous. Stop trying to make the sport into something it was NEVER intended to be. What's next, a pit road or a "lucky dog" pass @ Knoxville?

I personally voted for 30 simply because there wouldn't be a fuel stop. This a SPRINT race not a NAPCAR event. Oh well 50 it is I guess.

Seems to me that the solution to the problem is easy. These are sprint cars, not midgets. Put sprint car tail tanks on the cars and run 50 laps.

If you're gonna have a fuel stop then you might as well let them change tires too, or the first half of the race is gonna be awfully boring. We should rename Knoxville, IA to Syracuse, IA.

We weren't given 50 laps with no fuel stop in the poll or I would have picked that

Ya the only reason I didn't vote for 50 is because it had a fuel stop. I don't have a problem with them running 50 laps but I don't want a fuel stop. It ruins the entire race and the first half almost means nothing at all. Put bigger fuels tanks on the sprinter and go race!!!! This is gonna be like having hot laps and then the feature!!! I HATE THIS!!! Fuel stops are for faggs. THIS IS SPRINT CAR RACING!!! NOT NASCAR!!!
I'd rather be in Knoxville.

Fuel stops are a regular occurance on the WoO trail now..there not planned fuel stops, but they have them about every other race...Are we gonna have to rehash all of the same stupid arguments we had last year?? ..It was 40 with a stop last year and it was fine....the message board was absolutely quite following the nationals regarding this "horrendous, earth shattering fuel stop"....Here's my idea, all of you Einsteins on here who think it is going to ruin the biggest race of the year, DONT ATTEND!...You can all sit on here on Saturday night and send back and forth bitching posts about the fuel stop, and the rest of us 25,000 fans will enjoy the race in person...
50 laps without a fuel stop..yeah that would work well, lets make this a fuel conservation event...the truth of the matter is the WoO is the only organization that can implement the larger tank and motor guzzling issues and they don't seem to care...
And the tire issue for 50 laps really makes me laugh...Do you really think that Donnie Schatz was flat out balls to the walls the whole race when it was 30 laps??? He did the same thing as last year, took it easy for the first 10-12 laps and then took off...I've been to several 100 lap Late Model races and the first half wasn't boring and they had to have tires last a hundred laps...
Real racefans will be there to support the event..the rest of you with the "personal vendettas against k'ville" for some reason or the other need to attend your local stock car event that evening.....
Can't Wait until August!!!!!!

So, I see we have one here who has drank the Kool Aide and has accepted that fuel stops are now a "regular occurance", just what the "powers that be" set out to do, lead the sheep to slaughter.
Don't attend? That's just what I plan on doing. 25,000 fans huh? Highly doubtfull, the crowds have been dwindelling and it's not a shocker to those who have been around for a while what the problem is. Look around this year and keep wondering why the stands are no longer full for the Nationals, it's no coincidence.
It doesn't have to be a "fuel conservation event" if you don't have a midget tank on a sprint car. But hey, they "look cool"....Whatever... If Knoxville said 50 laps with no fuel stops for $120k to win, you can bet your ass that it would force the WoO's hand to take measures. Tires? Like I have said many times before. When the WoO ran the Hoosiers, not one team that I know of EVER bolted on a SC25. When big money is on the line and the rules are carved in stone, the teams WILL adapt.
I have no "personal vendettas against Knoxville" and I will make many trips there for the regular season. But AS a "racefan", I KNOW that sprint car racing existed for decades without fuel stops, but now that the genie is out of the bottle and the "Johnny come lately" fans have accepted that fuel stops are "just the way it is", we will continue to see races dictated by pit stops instead of racing.

No, I haven't drank the "kool Aid"...I was trying to point out that the WoO controls the future of 410 racing in everywere in the country other than PA, and they don't seem to care!!!
Mr. Web Site expert, tell me why the stands aren't full? Surely it's the mis-managemet of the speedway, and nothing to do with the economy, and then tell me why 410 racing is dying everywhere?? And yes, PA will just be the last to fall..
What my original post was about was about was the "panic stricken" 14 or 15 of you on here that feels this fuel stop ruins this race....it doesn't.....
I don't like it either, but CHANGE SUCKS...But, I'm not gonna let that keep me from attending a sprint car event that pays over 1,000,000 to our teams.....
And there will be close to 25,000 people this year due to the 50th...
I can't wait to see the bitching on here for what they are looking to do next year...it will be classic....
