Emmett Hahn wins his fifth NCRA event in seven starts in 1972. Track operator G.W. Elkins paid off in silver dollars and Hahn lugged 1825 of them back to Tulsa.

If ANYBODY has any old film or video like this one from Amarillo, please me or Brian as we are interested. One of us will even help with the conversion to DVD bill as well. It don't matter if it is NCRA but old supers and old late models pre-89 on back is what we are looking for.

This even goes for old film from Martha, the old Quartz Mountain race track, I personally would like film from the old TIDA assfault series, etc.

This deal puts my old NCRA film to shame I think.

First of all- to all of those considering sending us film.

This whole deal only lives on, due to trust given, trust received. Meaning, we know your film is important to you, more than you wish to admit . Supporting the trust is important, once the credibilty is busted, this deal could be over.

All film goes into a fireproof/floodproof lockbox, and I keep buying more to keep up with the volume of originals and copies.

The owner of the film gets credit, a dvd copy if wanted, AND THE ORIGINAL RETURNED. Also the owner has say so in how the film is put out too.

I DO PREFER COPIES THAT ARE AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINALS, THAT WAY YOU STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL SAFE WITH YOU.

NON-PROFIT, and simply to keep the history alive is the point.

ONE LAST THING-

My Grandpas last name is on this project, and that is every bit as important to me, and even more so in the long run,... Than shafting anyone for film. The only way this thing lives, is through honesty. it is that simple.

Yea, I was making a little joke because when you listen to the audio, Shane's name is mentioned a zillion times.

I was never accused of being the coldest beer in the fridge.

Yet another thing I will miss about Fairgrounds Speedway is, when there was drama on and off the track, the crowd was always into it and very vocal. Great crowds, enthusiasm and a wild Friday night was almost always the norm. The majority of the fans knew their dirt track racing.

That is yet another thing I will miss about our track.

Here's the story-

Last year I posted some clips of NCRA supers doing solo around OkC. Turns out it was July 16 1972, and an NCRA show. Alan Leibl of Wichita Falls was in the stands filming at the same time.

I took the clips and tried to get you a better idea of the day. These are only time trials, and only a few cars are in this clip. But as technology improves, maybe the resolution will be better too.

It would be neat if I found more clips and someday rebuilt this show on film. With convincing race sounds. By that I mean the wail of a v8 against a city backdrop on a 1/2 mile dirt track. Nothing will ever compare to the original sound of engines opening up in turn 3 at OkC. Nothing.- But you can bet I'll be looking.

Wonder if they would have thrown in another $500 for a sweep like on the regular Friday night shows?

Incidently,

I had my one meeting with Bud Carson back in 1989, just shooting the breeze after a rainout. I noticed on his wall the attendance for Friday night shows were down to 3,500 to 4,000 .

The WoO was bringing in 6,500.

I was there for a fairdate sprint car show in 1976 ( my first sprint car show to see), and the stands were sparse.

Looking back, the OkC crowd had just watched Leep win the title over the best the area had to offer, as well as having Tulsa and Lawton within 2 hours drive. I imagine there was nothing a wingless sprint car show was going to top what they had seen.

Back then I was too young to know who Leep was, or most anybody for that matter. I loved the color and diversity of the supers, and modifieds. No one told me what to like, I just had an honest pair of 8 year old eyes, and knew what I liked.

All my life, I have lived within a mile or two of a dragstrip- and for the past 22 years, there has been a dirt track in Carter County.

Not even the sparkle I have seen inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum could match the brevity of what I saw at Lawton on a regular saturday night in the 70's. And I know a lot , a lot of people who feel the same about their home track.
