John Stevenson towed down the 300 miles from St Paul to Knoxville every Saturday night. His very plain silver sprinter won 14 features at Knoxville in the late 1970s and 1980s.

Here's one from, I think, '78. Taken at Hartford, SD, the original half mile. Yes, for several years in the MN, IA, SD, ND area, John was the one to beat. No matter what year, the car remained pretty much the same.

Excellent pics everyone, thanks for sharing. I can remeber watching John when I was a little kid out at the old North Star Speedway. He was always one of my favorite drivers. There are a few more pics of John on Stan's history page if anyone is interested.

He also came up to Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada and raced and won at Riverview Raceways.

I watched Stevenson in the mid to late 70’s at North Starr from age 10-15 while growing up in the Twin Cities (Roseville)....he came in strong right after Barry Kettering was killed - would have been a great rivalry (I still remember the missing man formation they had for Kettring at North Starr in June 1976 at the start of the feature). Stevenson and Wolfgang and the Flying Potato Farmer (Don Mack) were typically the ones to beat...Bob Hop had his moments too. Wild Bill Dollansky (Craig’s dad) was a factor sometimes as well. I remember Roger Rager showing up one time late and running down to the infield after the preliminary races had started by entering at the flag stand....I can’t remember if it was a big race or not, but my dad said it was a big deal when he showed up. Lyn McIntosh would come down out of Thunder Bay, ONT occasionally too. We went to the first WoO show they had there in 78...I think Kinser won. Stevenson took down a 4th at the Knoxville Nationals one year (could never happen now). Me and my younger brothers would run around under the grandstands to get the empty Schmidt scenic beer cans to complete our collection. Sunday nights in the summer have never been the same - what a great time in my life...
