I am looking forward to the World of Outlaws in Baytown this Saturday. I noticed that the PR lists it as a 1/4 mile. I haven't been in a number of years. Has the track been shortened? I remember it being at least a "big 3/8" or maybe even a 1/2. My memory is not what it used to be though! I do recall standing outside of 1 and 2 and seeing the Dude running the high side while most were running the bottom and thinking that's strange :-)

It has been shortened. Still has wide sweeping turns.

They built a new track inside of the old half-mile layout. The walls are still in the same place, just there is now banking where the infield used to be.

I don't think it was ever 1/2 mile. Close to it (I believe that it was .40). To shorten it they just drew the turns in. There is a "shelf" between the top of the banking and the fence in the turns.

Here is a picture that I took last month. The "shiny" portion is the banking. The rest, between that and the fence is flat.
