The Napa County Fairgrounds and Calistoga Speedway went all out at this year's Sacramento Autorama. While most of the race cars were unmanned, the Calistoga Speedway display had up to 5 people on hand to answer questions and let people know about the upcoming season. Calistoga artist Bob Zagar brought some of his beautiful hand made signs that are usually seen at the track, plus he made some new signs along with a counter and a couple of checkered planter boxes to hold flowers. Bob didn't stop there as he made sure everyone had matching shirts with a logo that he also designed. Another Calistoga resident, Ted Surber helped set everything up and made sure nobody got through without getting a race schedule. Fairboard member, Mark Porter was signing people up for the race ticket raffle and handing out DVD's and info promoting the fairgrounds and the wonderful town that surrounds it. The center piece of the display was the beautiful Walt Ross #56 sprinter thanks to his daughter Sheila and her husband Kerry.
The gang had a wonderful time chatting with race fans and car buffs. The legend himself, Leroy VanConett even stopped by to say "hello" and check out one of the many cars he drove to victory at the famous half mile.
A pat on the back goes out to the Napa County Fairgrounds for purchasing the spot in the Autorama, while another one goes to the folks who donated their time over the three day show. It's the dedication and passion of people like them that will surely keep our race tracks open and thriving well into the future.
