Madsen Wins King Of Wings Preliminary Final In Perth Posted Saturday, 20 February 2010 by Darren ODea |
KERRY Madsen won the 25-lap Nanovich Sprintcar King of Wings preliminary feature race at the Perth Motorplex on Friday night from Max Dumesny and Brooke Tatnell. Madsen started from position five in the feature race and showed his hand with 15 to go when he got underneath Dumesny for the lead and ultimately the win. We got into traffic and that gave me the run we needed, Madsen said. I really enjoyed that track. We havent had much luck herelets see if we can keep the Madsen name up here, the Kendrick Racing driver said in reference to his brother Ian winning the World Series Sprintcars final at the same venue a fortnight earlier. Dumesny said it was great to get on the podium here in Western Australia. We have struggled lately, Dumesny said. We have all been a bit down in the mouth latelybut we have seen a bit of light with this new car. While Tatnell was happy with third (after starting on pole) he lamented missed opportunities. We made a bit of a meal on the start, Tatnell said. We had to get up on the cushion quickly on Max. We drove our butt offthe track was awfully fast tonightit was a lot more exciting when we got into lapped traffic. Dumesny led away early but the field regrouped after four laps when Jason Kendrick spun on the back straight and had to be forklifted off after the front-end collapsed. On the restart it was Dumesny from Madsen, Tatnell, American Johnson and Ryan Farrell. The leaders were in lapped traffic with 17 laps to go and a couple of laps later Madsen pounced on the inside at the end of the main straight. Two laps later the caution lights were on when Ken Sartori stopped with a flat right rear tyre. While Madsens motor was smoking in the latter stages he didnt ease off the throttle and put in some sensational slide jobs on the slower cars. Johnson finished fourth from Farrell, Steven Lines, Jamie Maiolo, David Ellement, American star Sammy Swindell, Shaun Bradford, Ben Ellement, Carl Dowling, Kris Coyle, Robert Farr, Mark Wells, Bryan Mann, Allan Nash, Ricky Maiolo and Todd Waddell. Wells won the drag race to the first corner over Ricky Maiolo to set up a big win in the B Main. The field regrouped with four laps remaining after Danny Reidy ran into the turn one-two fence. We had something break in the front end, Reidy said. I am glad I was in the B and not the A and taking out some of those guys. Following Wells and Maiolo over the line was Mann, Lawson and Clayden. Madsen, who started on the outside front row, won the first heat from Ben Ellement and Carl Dowling. The start of the second heat was marred by a flip to Troy Lawson who went over after minor contact on the main straight. Wells jumped two starts in a row and was sent to the rear of the field. Tatnell then got a warning in the next attempt and on the fourth start things got underway, with Tatnell winning from Farrell and Swindell. If this thing gets blown off all the way up to the fenceits going to be fun, Tatnell said after the win. At the start of the third heat Sartori got warned for an early jump and then on the next attempt Priolo pulled infield. David Ellement went on to win the race from Sartori and Jamie Maiolo. This format is a tough format and we cant make any mistakes, Ellement said. Tatnell was frowned upon by officials after they believed he made an aggressive move which put Swindell over on the exit of turn four early on in the A Dash. Swindell walked over and remonstrated with Tatnell who was still in the car and ready for the restart. Tatnell was in a mean mood as he went on to win the A Dash from Jamie Maiolo and Madsen. When asked to comment on the incident after the win Tatnell was pretty matter-of-fact about the incident. Sammy is a hard racer, I am a hard racer, Tatnell said. He said neither driver was going to give up ground. On the second lap I got in there and he left the door openI dont deliberately go and crash guys. Lines won the Midpack Madness race from Ian Madsen and Bradford.

Tatnell Is The King At Perth Motorplex Posted Sunday, 21 February 2010 by Darren ODea |
BROOKE Tatnell led from start to finish to win the 28th Nanovich Sprintcar King of Wings from Kerry Madsen and American Jason Johnson at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night. Tatnell was able to stay out of trouble and show his track craft in the busy lapped traffic to claim the 30-lapper 15 years since he last won this race. But the big mover was Madsen who started from 11th and stole second from Johnson in the dying stages of the highly-entertaining race. Tatnell said some people believe tribute races dont mean much but he said they definitely did. The King of Wings was always a special race to win, but since they made it the Nanovich King of Wings its not just another race. You are racing with your heart on your sleeve. Tatnell said he had a great team that had propelled him to some big wins this season. We all believe in each other and thats why we have such a formidable team. Madsen impressed everyone with his sensational drive. I drive my arse off manI had a pretty good race car there the car was awesome. I was just really proud to start 12th (actually 11th) and get up to second. Johnson said he enjoyed the race but came up a bit short. It was a great race, I just couldnt quite get to Brooke like we wanted to. Tatnell got the jump at the start but only enjoyed it for just over a lap when Todd Waddell spun in turn one and went to the rear of the field on the restart. Mark Wells spun around in turn and got out of harms way when he was collected by Carl Dowling which put them, along with Troy Lawson out of the contest. Tatnell was into lapped traffic after just seven laps and using different lines to get through the field. Johnson showed his nose inside Max Dumesny for second while at the same time there was a great scrap between Ryan Farrell and Steven Lines. A couple of laps later Dumesny reclaimed second but it was counted for little with 14 laps to go after he pulled infield with a smoking engine. Madsen was picking off the racers one by one including Ryan Farrell when he executed a big slide in pits bend with nine laps to go and continued his hard charge ahead, then picking off Lines and ultimately Johnson Tatnell set up his night after he won the A Dash from Farrell, Jamie Maiolo, Coyle and Bradford while Madsen was a non finisher after the front-end collapsed. We didnt come here for no reason, we are obviously here for a win, Tatnell said We are definitely here for a King of the Wings win. Dumesny was very fast on his way to winning the B Dash with some low 13-second laps as he won from Johnson and Swindell. The track is coming up awesome and the car is going fantastic, Dumesny said. Its good to be back up the front end of the field. Farr won the Midpack Madness from Wells and Mann. Dowling won the B Main from Kendrick and Troy Lawson. Kerry Madsen won the first heat of the night from Lines, Jamie Maiolo and Coyle with all four qualifying for the dashes. We are in a great position, so we will see what we can do, Madsen said after the win. Its going to be a fun nightI am looking forward to it. He admitted to losing the brakes in the latter stages but was glad he didnt have to lose them. It just sucks when you come in for the interview and you cant stop I guess. Dumesny won the next bout from Farrell, Ben Ellement and Ian Madsen who snuck under Farr in a brave move to make the transfer into the dashes. This relegated Farr to the Midpack Madness round for the 12-18th placed cars. The track is going to come in and go away pretty quickly later on, Dumesny said. He said other drivers were handling the slick track conditions well. I am going to have to step up to the plate to keep up with them. Johnson won the final heat from Tatnell, Bradford and Swindell to be the last four into the dashes. The winner said they had been chasing the chassis set-up for a while but felt like they had made some big gains in recent weeks. It seems to be pretty good right now, Johnson said. His Haynes team said they had been tinkering with the shocks and suspension adjustments over night looking for a bit more speed. These guys are outrunning us and we dont like it.

AJC Professional Coating Services Formula 500s I really didnt think I was going to win this, Daniel Harding said after winning the AJC Professional Coating Services Formula 500s round for the weekend. He finished on 593 points, just two points better than brother Trevor Harding, with Steven Ellement third on 584. We have been working on these cars for a long time, every time we race we find a new improvement. Its been a long journey but we are getting there. Brother Trevor was happy with his second. Coming second to Daniel on a two-night show is just like winning it anyway, the second of the Hardings said. Steven (track point score leader Steven Ellement) has been putting up a heck of a fight all year. We might have just found something that will help take us to the Aussie title. Its fantastic to have both cars up the front. Ellement paid credit to the Harding boys but believed he would have enough points in the bank to win the track championship. Hopefully we will take out the championship, Ellement said. We went really well at the start of the season and gained a few points then. Its good to be able to back off a bit now and finish all the races. Race 4: 1st Trevor Harding, 2nd Daniel Harding, 3rd Shane Andersson, 4th Steven Gay, 5th Steven Ellement, 6th Chris Dymock, 7th Brad Warwick, 8th Jamie Sims, 9th Matt Higgs, 10th Jeff Hedington, 11th Tim Winters, 12th Todd Nathan, 13th Grant Perry, 14th Jason Pryde, 15th Bill Richards, 16th Jeff Prentis. As for the Track Kevin was going to defend his Title on .From all reports it was Digraceful .But you wont here the drivers saying that .Maybe that is why a lot Sprintcar drivers by pass the Presidents cup and go direct to the Kings Challenge in Mount Gambier

Back from the Australian Midget title in Geelong. Davey Ray was awesome in all the heats he was in and show how to drive a speedcar.
Kevin Swindell was going to win that the title from Position 11. He had moved into 2nd by lap 6 and made contact with Davey Ray while going for the lead in turn 3
Track condition were awesome on Night 1. Night 2 was a little different due to the fact they reworked the track and send out the support classes which knocked off the heavier stuff instead of sending out the title.
Nathan Smee come from the B-Main and save his gear and actually drove just as hard as all the drivers that retired but had the tyre. The track was 2 lines towards the end when Keith Giles went to the top and almost stole the title from the 4th spot on the last corner only to clip Smee right rear.
