I have ran some races where they have double file starts and in a race where the bottom is the only place to be it is really nice to start on the inside and pass 2 or 3 cars because they get hung out on the outside.
Should a guy in 2nd be able to say he would rather start 3rd than take a chance to fall back to 5th or 6th?
Also the point was brought up about intentionally bringing out yellow. I have seen this done on single file starts but it really helps a guy when he only has to go to what would have been the middle of that single file line!
So my question: 1.) Should there be double file restarts 2.) Should I be able to pick inside or outside 3.) Should we go back to cone 4.) or should we go back to single file where the leader can pick up the pace anywhere between turn 2 and 4?
Would love to hear opionions or thoughts.

I have mentioned before I am old school, but in my opinion #4 is the only option. If you are leading you should be able to go when you want. And if you are not leading you should not be kept from racing while you watch the leader disappear into turn one as you try to get to the cone. I have always hated the cone. I think it handicaps the rest of the field to much. Like the saying goes "when the green flag drops the bull$hit stops". It does not say "when the green flag drops, you have to go by the cone(without passing, going below or hitting the cone)and then the bull$hit stops.

I too think option 4 is the best option from both a spectator and a racers prospective. I loved watching Doug Clark eye the leader and as soon as the leader got on the gas he hit the green light and the race was on. There was no brake checking because you would get passed as everyone could pull out and go around you. It made those green white checkereds much more exciting as a guy could gain a couple of positions in 3 and 4 and a couple more in 1 and 2.

I appreciate how you say Doug Clark would "eye" the leaders.lol
Another thing, everybody is trying to save money these days. Well you could sell the cone on ebay and pay one less person to stand there all night and wait for a restart so he can pull in the cone. Just an idea

The only reason for the cone was to stop the fast cars in the back from passing before the green flag fiies. The common thought was that they were at the tail anyway, how could they penalize them anymore if they jumped. I must say, it worked good for that, but it still sucks to have to use it.
Typically, it wasnt the backrunners that would do this, it was somebody running towards the front with a good car and for whatever reason,( flat tire, spin out, etc.) found themselves at the tail for a restart.
